How to downgrade 3.0 to 2.2.1, 2.2 ( iTunes 8.2)
1-First download Quickpwn Rc3
iphone-hacks.com/downloads/file/138
2-You also will need 2.0.2 ipsw google it.
Start the Jailbreak process and when the screen turns into White color (Recovery mode) unplug the USB and close Quickpwn RC3, now reconnect iPhone and iTunes 8.2 will discover the iPhone in reovery mode and the screen is still White color ...then Shift+RESTORE 2.2.1 or 2.2

This method works
Quickpwn RC3 puts the iPhone in recovery mode and then itunes discovers the phone and restore to lower ipsw.
You are not doing jailbreak here, you are just prepare iPhone to be in Recovery to allow the restore .

If you have an iphone 2G.
If you have firmware 3.0
If you want to downgrade back to firmware 2.x.
All you have to do is put phone in DFU mode, select firmware 2.x in itunes and restore. You should not get any errors after the restore because the baseband firmware (04.05.04_G) is the same across firmware 2.0 - 3.0.
When done, the phone will still be unlocked but not activated or jailbroken.
Now you can use Quickpwn 2.2.5 with your 2.x fw on the phone.
The only thing I am not sure about is the version of itunes.
You may need to use itunes 8.1.x to restore with fw 2.x
Itunes 8.2 is required if you going to fw 3.0
ps: using quickpwn rc3 does not make sense to me.

NO.
this section is for 2G.
My post above specifically say iphone 2G.
FWIW, you cannot do downgrade with 3G unless you have a 5.8BL - However, this is moot because ultrasn0w will be able to unlock newer baseband. Keep following Dev-Team blog for announcement of ultrasn0w release.
