It seems people don't know what Quickpwn does. Quickpwn just jailbreaks and activates the iPhone. It doesn't install a completely new firmware like PwnageTool does. If you have an unlocked iPhone with 2.0.2 and update to 2.1 the unlock should stay. If you do a restore to 2.1 unlock might not survive and you have to wait for a new version of QuickPwn that works on firmware 2.1. Or downgrade to 2.0.2 and jailbreak it again.

    Default DFU Mode Problem

    Hi All,

i had a problem this morning updating to 2.1 and had to restore to 2.0.2. Now i am on the emergency calling screen and am able to make and receive calls. But i am not able to activate my iphone 2g.

I have read sugestions here to use the quickpwn software, too activate and jailbreak my phone.

now, when i reach the screen where it is just about to begin pawning and says Please connect your device via usb to conitnue , i connect my phone, it send some singnal to it and it reboots, now at the tie of reboot when i try to press home button for 5 sec and so on... the phone show the display with cd and wire icon(restore mode) an not dfu mode..

Somebody please help, i am stuck and have a flight to catch in 6 hours.

    Thanks

This morning I did via iTunes 8.0 upgrade to 2.1 from iPhone 2G 2.0.2. The unlock stays and I could use the iPhone with Indonesian XL SIM card. The jailbreak is gone, so now only App Store apps are loaded. The contacts stays as it is an Upgrade.

The iPhone Dev Team says: "... be prepared for some stuff from us today that is cool". Hopefully QuickPwn (Mac version) will be available in a few hours from now...

    Enjoy your iPhone 2G 2.1.

When this is all working under 2.0.2, you can "update" the phone via itunes to 2.1 firmware. This "soft" update will retains your activation and unlock. However, the phone is no longer jailbroken (no cydia, no installer) and you will not be able to install non-appstore app
dtube, in this case it retains the unlock because there is no baseband change from 2.0.2 to 2.1, correct? but in those cases in which baseband does change from one firmware to another, the unlock should go away too, correct?

    Default Success... and a tip

I updated my previously Windows-QuickPwned iPhone 2G using iTunes on my Mac today. The unlock stayed, I could use my apps from the App Store, etc. Life was good.

So I decided to use QuickPwn on the Mac to get themes and a few handy programs like Cycorder. All went well until the very end of the process. I expected a reboot, but when it rebooted three times (about 5 minutes in between each), I started to panic. I left the phone in the dock and didn't touch it, but I did shut down iTunes.

Also, I started searching for any answer on the forums. That's when I found a post with capitalized red letters saying something to the effect of "DON'T QUIT ITUNES!". Gulp!

I started up iTunes, still left the phone completely alone, and watched as the iPhone rebooted again. I just sat watching everything and the iPhone booted just fine! Everything was done and working fine.

The moral of the story: DON'T QUIT ITUNES!

    (Thanks Dev Team!)

I have the exact same problem. I am able to make and receive calls - but stuck at the emergency screen level. Absolutely refusing to allow me to Shift-restore into any other version other version other than the original 2.1 - Keep getting the 'error 1600'

I tried to use the old iTunes 7.7 which was on my desktop - but it gives a " iTunes 8.0 or higher is required for restoring this iPhone..... " message.

HELP!!! All my work happens over the phone - and I dont have a spare either!

    kb100,

    Not too worry.

    Open up iTunes 7.7.

Put your phone in DFU mode! If it failed to get into dfu mode, put it into the normal Recovery Mode (USB Cable---> iTunes picture shown).

    You can then Shift-Restore.
