So it is possible to unlock a brand new iPhone 2G with 2.2 with QuickPWN?

I will get a refurbished replacement 2G from Apple in a few minutes.
Will work. If you are on Windows use Quickpwn 2.2, will do the complete job.
On a Mac you may use PwnageTool 2.2 or Quickpwn 2.2. Difference: Quickpwn on a Mac does not do the unlock (just jailbreak/activation/install Apps), you have to use more steps. Check

I edited my post in the meantime. Sorry!
I tried to use QuickPWN 2.2 on OSX (10.5.6 via a HUB) but QuickPWN told me, that the FW on the locked iPhone is not supported.
You mean, if I understand you, that I should use Pwnage 2.2.1 to unlock and jailbreak?
Best wishes, Birke

I have no idea what FW is installed on this new iPhone 2G. But I canīt have a look, because it is locked.

Should I activate the DFU Mode and install a fresh downloaded 2.2 FW with iTunes or should I use Pwnage to install a custom unlocked FW on the iPhone, as told in the iClarified Tutorial?

If you want to use PwnageTool (on your Mac) use the iclarified tutorial I mentioned

It is all in there. The feature not to update the baseband is only for 3G iPhones cause they want to stay at their baseband version for a later unlock. This is different story
