Nope, that involves a lot of steps including the use of older iTunes versions, downgrading the baseband and more.
There is a tutorial
http://iphone-tmobile-nosignal.blogspot.com/
that will bring you to firmware 1.1.4. this will be the first major step. At firmware 1.1.4 you can then downgrade (DFU) to 1.1.1 or 1.1.2, after taht you will have to use a Baseband downgrader again, available on Installer.
It's a lot of work, happy hacking

Mind explaining why your upgrade to 2.1 was unimpressive? I am actually considering upgrading from 1.1.2 to 2.1 at the moment, so any info would be much appreciated.

hi there,
i personally wouldn't bother with this release. it's v e r y v e r y slow to do basically anything. i wait up to 10seconds sometimes longer just to look for a contact in the 'contacts' book (tap on the contacts button; wait for 3-5 seconds to load and then it seems to be frozen for a good 8-10 seconds before you can interact with it) and most other apps seem to 'freeze' for a while before they are usable.
i've had safari crash out on me more times in the last few days then i have ever had under 1.1.2.
i can't prove it, but i'm sure the signal strength is lower also.
ok, so it's nice to have a few things that the 2.1 stuff brings, but at the moment it's not a good release for me.
i'm going get a plan together to get back to 1.1.4 for now and see how i go.

ok, so i'm now back to 1.1.4.
one thing i wanted to do is restore from my previous backup.
when i first connected to the phone after the downgrade, iTunes said that i could restore from two backups taken. i had two backups in the list so i picked the top one. it failed to restore.
how can i get back to this screen (set as new etc) where i can choose from previous backups? is there a manual way to restore from a backup?
cheers

I dont know of a way to get this one back. As far as i know it is only shown if you just restored the firmware BTW: Did you downgrade the baseband aswell??
One hint: You seem to be on a Mac. You can access all of the backup data that is stored on your Mac. It is the best way to get the data back, the iTunes function just throws back all data, even preference files your firmware might not be able to handle.
First you should take a look into iTunes->Settings->Devices (iPhone icon). You should get a list of backed up devices (just one if you own one iPhone of cause). Should be there.
Location of the files is here on Mac OS X
~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The folder(s) with loooooong number
Then get mdhelper
download address:
http://ericasadun.com/ftp/Macintosh/...-universal.zip
after you downloaded and extracted mdhelper to the desktop, start Terminal and type
cd Desktop/
chmod 755 mdhelper
Then to extract files, type
./mdhelper -C .*
A new folder will be created on the desktop, containing all files. You can use SSH then to put em back.
Hope that helps,

thanks volkspost.
no, not using a mac ... i wish :-) ... i'm on XP.
i got back to the restore screen by just doing (yet another) shift-restore from within iTunes and pointing at the 1.1.4 f/w file. when i then jailbroke, it gave me the option again. i was then able to select the other backup and voila :-)
ill run 1.1.4 for a couple of days now and see if it's worth going back to 1.1.2. sounds a bit stupid downgrading to 1.1.2 i guess, but i was running quite happily on it

Thanks for insight. I'm happy and holding @ FW:1.1.3 for now! (Maybe with 2.2. I'll jump.)

I'd stay with 1.1.4 then cause it#s the best out of the 1.1.x versions

ok so I just noticed that when I try to go to iTunes from the phone it says cannot connect to iTunes store.
did a search around and people report issues if the time isnt right. so I checked and everything is ok. I'm using auto update.
if however I manually set the date back a day iTunes is fine. WTF???
anyone seen this?
