Can I just upgrade my 2.0.1 to 2.2.1 and then use quikpwn to unlock it?


What is the best way to get my phone to 2.2.1 and maintain all my data such as call logs emails etc...

For backing up your data you can use iTunes. Instead it's the only software you can use for backing up.

And for the unlock process i suggest the web page below.

after the retore to 2.2.1 and runing the quickpwn process , just set your iphone as the previos backed up iphone in itunes

and this is the 2g iphone section so im assuming ur iphone is 2g so use this link instead :

How do you do that? And wouldn't performing a restore to a version saved before the update mean rolling back the firmware to where it was before the update --defeating the purpose?

No, the backup will just restore the info, settings, etc. The firmware is not contained in the backup.
