    Default 1.1.2.. upgrade to 2.0.2?

    Gentlemen,

I apologize in advance for any questions asked which will definitely have been answered somewhere before. I just want to be sure that I understood everything correctly.

I have a iPhone 2G with firmware 1.1.2 which was activated, jailbroken und unlocked using (yeah, I hear the mourns) ZiPhone 1.0. So it has still the original bootloader 4.6. Everything works like a charm. But now I have my SMS Mailbox full and I decided it may be time to do the step to 2.02 or 1.1.4. I am not unexperienced and now a couple of things, but I since I didn't update for long time I am kind of not-up-to-date regarding all the different pwning processes.

Now I heard cases of people having problems with their batterylife and complaining about crashes after 2.0. I don't need much, but what I really want to have is:

    - 2.02 activated, jailbroken, unlocked
    - Installer (no Cydia)
    - my old SMS, Photos etc. transferred to 2.02
    - no problems with battery life and stable

    1. So my first question is: Should I stick (or at least upgrade) to 1.1.4 to have a totally stable Phone or can I use 2.02?

    2. If I go to 2.02: I'd rather use Quickpwn, or do I need to do the whole pwnage process using WinPwn/Pwnage Tool (after reading the tut and FAQ I still don't understand the exact difference)? As the procedure has grown, am I better off using WinPwn instead of QuickPwn (which is quite new)?

    3. If I update and restore it with my old SMS, Photos etc. will I run into any problems with battery life and stability? Would it be better to get a 100% stable phone to set the phone up as a new phone and then copy my old SMS and photos back via SSH? Probably the old SMS.db (don't know its exact name) will be incompatible with 2.02, won't it?.

    4. Using both processes I will need to put my phone into DFU Mode. As I used ZiPhone 1.0 I am still kind of afraid of fucking my phone up because of this. Do I need to do any extra steps because I used ZiPhone 1.0?

    5. So if I pwn my iPhone I would a) create custom ipsw b) pwn my phone c) restore my iPhone with custom ipsw d) how can I then get my old data back on my phone? I set it up as something like "old Phone" and then my old Backup will be written to the phone, right?

    6. Which version of iTunes to I need? I am on 7.5, and need to upgrade to 7.7, yes?

    7. Should I install Cydia instead of installer? I don't want them both, but I heard that Cydia was part of the battery problem. I still don't know if that was the case? Is Installer a

I hope someone can help me who knows more than I do, cause at the moment I just can't read as much as would like to. But I still want to be on the safe side doing the update.

    What you want:
    - 2.0.2 completely J/A/U can be done
    - Installer no Cydia, can be done (my personal choice Cydia).
    - sms & photo, you can search for sms.db . For photo, you can look at this http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/show...=photo+restore
    - no problem with battery

    1. Based on your requirement. I say 2.0.2

    2. QuickPwn 1.5.1 RC3 is the version to use. WinPwn 2.5 is also the alternative. They are both good. I think QuickPwn will be quick and simple for you.

    3. No stability problem as far as I know. Always setup as new phone. Use SSH to put back your stuff. I'm not an expert with photo & sms, just search on sms.db. If you are on a mac, you can use mdhelper to recover everything from iTunes.

    4. If you use QuickPwn, first you DFU restore the phone using 2.0.2 fw. Afterward, use QuickPwn to proceed with J/A/U

    5. If you use QuickPwn, you don't create ipsw like WinPwn. Your backup/restore question have been answered above. Always setup as new phone.

    6. iTunes 7.7

    7. Pick what ever you want, Cydia does not give you battery problem. My choice is Cydia

I have the same iphone 2g and same 1.1.2 firmware
Did not upgrade for the same reasons. i thought I was the last one
    in the universe .. with a 1.1.2

Thank you both for asking and answering and making my life easier

I need few clarifications though :hack:

1 Installer is the same installer we are/were using with 1.1.2?

2 What do you mean as "setup as new phone"?

    thanks

    1. Installer under 1.x.x is different version than Installer under 2.x.x firmware. Same concept though.

    2. After you upgrade the firmware and use pwnage/winpwn/quickpwn to jb/act/unlock, the first time when you sync it with itunes; it will ask if you want to restore from backup or setup as new phone. Choose setup as new phone

    Hey dtube,

thank you very much for your help, you really shed a light on many things! For anyone in the same situation, here's what I did:

I am now on 2.02 and I don't regret it, everything works as it should. I used WinPwn instead of QuickPwn, as it seemed to be the more experienced/stable version. I set it up as new phone and didn't copy all my old stuff with iTunes, instead I did a manual backup in 1.1.2 over SSH of the following files:

    SMS.db
    from /var/root/Library/SMS/sms.db (in 1.1.2 it's in root)
to /var/mobile/Library/SMS/sms.db (in 2.0.2 it's in mobile, applicable for all other files)

    Notes
    /var/root/Library/Notes/notes.db

    Address Book
    /var/root/Library/AddressBook/AddressBook.sqlitedb
    /var/root/Library/AddressBook/AddressBookImages.sqlitedb

    Caller History
    /var/root/Library/CallHistory/call_history.db

    Camera roll
    /var/root/Media/DCIM/100APPLE

    Safari
    /var/mobile/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist

After I used WinPwn, I didn't want to install BSD Subsystem and SSH as I usually don't need it. But I wanted to copy the files back. So if you wish to do the same and you are on Windows, just install iPhone Browser, a nifty WIndows tool which gives you access to the filesystem over cable (http://code.google.com/p/iphonebrowser/downloads/list).

I also decided to not install Installer 4 but instead use Cydia as dtube suggested, and I don't regret it, everything is there and it's all I need.

    Thank you for your help.

Where can I found Calendar and Favorites on SSH? I want to backup that too.
    Thank you.

i'm still on 1.1.2 too *blush*
main reason for me is there's no mms and soulseek for 2.0.* (just to mention a few apps not compatible)
beside that I've heard that 2.0 on a 2G iphone is pretty slow as the cpu is less powerful than the 3G one... is that correct?
