Default Urgent help. Phone stuck at loading apps

I was installing a lock app and then a phone call came in in the middle of it. The result of that was, after respring the phone just stuck at loading when I choose to open an app. Everything works at lockscreen level, such as email, time, wheather, sms notification etc. But the moment it needs to open the an apps it just stuck there. Call can come in but I cannot make one since cant dial.

Tried respring, reboot, sync. Still the same. At itunes it seems to be alright as it updates everything.

Its a 3GS 3.0 jailbreak using Redsnow, done a year ago.

Tried upgrading to 4.0 using pwnage. When restoring it gives an error 1600 - can't complete the restore. Tried the recommended step, restart computer, update itunes etc. With the new itunes 10, the error becomes something else, no longer 1600 but it says can't restore the iphone (something like that)

Tried to restore 3.1.2, still cant. Tried to use old itunes and restore to 3.1.2, still cant.

Please anyone help, what to do, any idea?

    Thanks.

Sorry to hear about the issue you had when you received the call while installing. Haven't had a similar issue but it sounds like a pain in the neck, that's for sure.

Error 1600 when restoring can be one of several things (USB issues, cable issues, iTunes issues, etc.), please review here for more support on restore issues and to (if needed) get a useful restore log for us to review: http://www.hackint0sh.org/f137/130802.htm. Also, remember, the 3GS requires an SHSH on file w/ Cydia or locally for restores of iOS revisions not currently being signed (only 4.0.2 + 4.1 are being signed right now), so make sure you've followed instructions here: Caching Apple's Signature Server - Jay Freeman (saurik) -- if you haven't already, or didn't elect for Cydia to "Make My Life Easier", then you may have missed the opportunity and that will limit what you have available to you as an option to resolve this.

In either case, the best bet for you would be to restore to 3.1.2 or 4.0 (depending on SHSH, as mentioned, and your preference, either will work), and then follow the instructions to jailbreak. redsn0w for 3.1.2, jailbreakme.com for 4.0/4.0.1. Do not upgrade to 4.0.2, it can only be jailbroken on old bootrom 3GS devices and is not officially supported.
The preceding forum post has been brought to you by the letter "N" and the number 42.

    iPhone 4, 32GB (iOS 6.1.2 | evasi0n | SHSH: 4.0 - 6.1.2)
    iPad 2 3G, 64GB (iOS 6.1.2 | evasi0n
    |
    SHSH: 4.3 & 4.3.3 - 6.1)

Had my phone repaired at a shop, not sure what they did but at least it works. Having a frequent "No Service" at the moment. Would like to try to restore to see if I can get back to normal.

    1) Would a 'restore to backup' updates the firmware and will I lose jailbreak? The phone is an early model 3GS, currently at 4.01, signed with Cydia.

    2) Is there any link to a step by step instruction to restore the phone, and then how to restore all the sms, notes, addresses etc. Will I lose all those during the restore process?

Tried to search the forum, can't get a clear answer. Appreciate the response, anyone. Thanks

If you are trying to diagnose/fix a problem, it is always best to start with as clean a setup as possible. This normally means a restore (in your case, I suggest using pwnagetool custom IPSW) and setting up iPhone as new.

That will cause you to lose your existing data (unless you take precautions first and backup the backup that is saved on your local machine).

However this is the only way to know if the problem is with your personal files (including the settings that you can change and are included in the backup) or with the iOS or hardware itself.
