    Question Upgrade 3GS from 3.0.1 to custom 3.1.2 doesn't work - error 1604

I have a jailbroken 3.0.1 iPhone 3GS that i want to upgrade to 3.1.2, but restoring to a custom 3.1.2 firmware doesn't work...

I shift click and select the file, it bypasses the server check without problem, but phone is just restarted to recovery mode (showing cable itunes logo), and then the progress bar just says "preparing iphone for restore", and nothing happens. After about 5 minutes i get error 1604.

Does anyone know what's wrong? Tested on two different PC's...

    If it wasn't a 3GS i could just use ih8sn0w, but apparantly that app doesn't support 3GS...

Also, I'm trying to recreate the custom firmware just for sure, but it's not possible to enable baseband upgrade. I obviously want the 05.11.07 (3.1.2) baseband, not the old 04.26.08 (3.0.1) baseband.

All you have to do is put phone in restore mode then use itunes to select the custom firmware you created to restore.

YOU SHOULD stay with baseband 04.26.08 and NOT 05.11.07.
Ultrasnow unlock for BB = 04.26.08 is much better and more desirable to have. Trust me.

If you are getting error restoring your custom firmware then perhaps your custom firmware is corrupted. Double check that.

Thanks, problem is now solved. Apparantly the phone wasn't jailbroken correctly. Which is weird, cause i ran through redsn0w, without any error, and i even saw that the graphics on the phone indicating that it was working on uploading data etc.

After i did it again, restoring worked. Only difference between the two times i jailbroke it, was that the first time I didn't select to install cydia. Maybe that is necessary?

i don't know what you did and why it did not work. Select Cydia or not in custom firmware creation has no effect on restoring.
