Updating Pwned 2.0 Phone?
Hi, when firmware 2.1 comes out, is it safe to update an original iPhone which has been bootneutered and unlocked on firmware 2.0 by PwnageTool? Thanks

Updating, if you're in a supported country, works. You would just lose cydia and applications you've installed using cydia. I have just successfully updated to 5F90 (2.1) without having to the activate the phone. I tried restoring to 2.1 before but that didn't work cos I was stuck at activation although my carrier was recognized and I was able to receive calls.
On a separate note, gprs is now represented by a circle instead of a tiny square. Dunno about edge though.

This was also the case with 2.0 firmware. I have a 1. rev on GPRS and I have the small circle inside the tiny square. I don't know about edge since my provider doesn't offer that (yet). Maybe it's just an "E" ?

spaceman81, what about unsupported country folks?? Some report successful activation, others are stuck at activation screen...

If you just update from a pwned 2.0 to 2.01 or to 2.1 you shouldn't need to activate. If you do a restore, then you'd be stuck at activation. Even for unsupported countries, you'd still be able to make and receive calls if you had run bootneuter on 2.0 as the baseband isn't updated for the 1st gen iPhones.

I just updated to give it a try, 1st gen phone. And it All updated fine except, rather importantly for a phone, it's no longer able to make or receive calls. The signal bar just has one line and doesn't come up with my carrier.
SO DON'T UPDATE!

what about the jailbreak?

jailbreak isn't going to work, that's done in the custom firmware. Tht's not going to be save across.
-
that shouldn't be happening if you just updated cos the baseband wasn't updated in this version of the firmware. Are you sure you clicked on update instead of restore? I have no issues running 5B108. However, the only issue I have is when I update to 5F90, I am unable to install or use a couple of applications. One of which is the Facebook app. Trying to get it to work and will post the result later today.
