Update to firmware 3.0
Is it possible to update to 3.0 immediately after launch?
My iPhone is unlocked with pwange and running 2.2.1. I don't need jailbreak, so can I update to OS 3.0 without losing my unlock?
In the past I could always update, because there were no baseband update for the 2G.

The unlock stayed but you needed the activation. I would not go for any workarounds, as the Dev Tem stated, we'll see a clean solution soon.

I didn't have to activate my iPhone in the past. I can't remember. Did Apple changed something in this firmware?
I have a 2G not a 3G.

What happened in the past does not necessarily apply to the next upgrade/update. Most likely you won't have to activate, but you still lose the jailbreak. And, at any rate, I would wait for a Dev Team announcement on what to do

If you "alt+update" (Mac) in itunes, the activation stayed on my pwned 2g (as all programms and settings did) when i installed 3.0 GM.
If you "alt+restore" (Mac), you'll need a new activation that will hopefully come with the new pwnagetool.

wait... so just so i've got this straight. I've got a pwned 2g iphone. and if i dont care about jailbreak I dont need to wait for pwnage tool again? I can just hit update and it will do everything for me and keep the unlock?
i want unlock... i actually DO NOT WANT jailbreak - it has only ever caused me problems... am I understanding this correctly?

Yes, but only if you are currently running custom firmware created using PwnageTool. If you have used QuickPwn, after update you'll lose activation.
PwnageTool -> Update -> OK
PwnageTool -> Restore -> Emergency only
QuickPwn -> Update -> Emergency only
I'm currently running 3.0 updated from pwned 2.2.1, everything works fine except YouTube. Other users also report that My Location feature doesn't work over EDGE. So if you want these features it's best to wait for the new tools from the Dev Team.

I just upgraded and can report that everything works lovely. I have an original EDGE iPhone that was unlocked with Pwange Tool on Mac. All I did was update directly in iTunes, you got to love it.
Like the previous poster said, YouTube won't work. Also MMS is not enabled, greed Apple.

It's safe to update to 3.0 if I ever used pwnage? Last update was made with quickpwn but the update after that, 2.2 (i think) was made with Winpwn
