hoping you can help with my problem..

I bought iphone thru OPTUS(australia), however using a CRAZY JOHN's sim card... which uses the vodafone network.

The settings in the carrierbundle.plist had to be edited because the APN setting for vodafone are not the same as the ones that crazy john uses. And crazy johns dont have a ipcc file that can be downloaded from itunes..

After editing, the APN settings all work. ie i can use mms , and internet on iphone.

I mention all this because im not sure if this is the contibuting factor to my problem.


PROBLEM.....

I am constantly overseas (outside of my home country australia).The problem is that when am roaming in another country, especially HONG KONG, the caller id does not show on my iphone. I have installed ur caller id FW3.0 package from cydia and it when calls come thru from AUSTralia they come up as 'unknown' and sometimes even as 'blocked'....

THis problem does not occur in when roaming in singapore, or roaming in the U.S...

N.B all my contacts are australian phone numbers and stored in the format
+61 --- --- --- eg. +61 408 555 499

I dont know where the problem lies..
I dont know if the problem is

a) the roaming carrier in hongkong (CLS, SMARTONE vodafone)?
b) there is something wrong with the carrierbundle.plist file (even thought all the APN settings work)?
C) something to do the caller id package?
d)my phones regional settings?
e) something wrong with the UIMobileCountryCoes.plist file?
f) something wrong with the Default.phoneformat file?


can you give any suggestions on what you think might be the problem here..

This is almost 100% likely not an iPhone specific problem.

Having worked in the telecommunications industry in Australia for 12 years I can be pretty sure of this.

One of the problems with international telephony is that both ends have to have matching equipment, this combined with long term contracts on the actual circuit means there is a lot of very old equipment out there that is happily making money for both sides without any incentive to upgrade it.

This is especially true with Australia, where the isolation keeps the price of international telephony pipes high.

So you have a much higher chance of encountering such a problem when roaming from Australia.

IP telephony is slowly changing this, but when I left Oz 3 years ago, there was still some legacy circuits being renewed on long term contracts. Cheaper than installing new equipment.

I just upgraded from OS 1.1.4 to 3.1.2 and noticed strange number formatting for India. Landline numbers appear as +91 xx-xxxxxxxx, and mobile numbers as +91 98-xx-xxxxxx.
When I was on 1.1.4, I modded the 'UIPhoneFormats.plist' file with my own customised formatting of numbers the way I wanted them as follows:

<string>#### ####</string>
<string>+91 9#### #####</string>
<string>+91 ## #### ####</string>
<string>09#### #####</string>
<string>9#### #####</string>
<string>00 $</string>

Is there any way I can get the same formatting now? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

substitute with:

This prefix bug is really driving me crazy. I have tried several things whitout any progress.

Since I have to add an extra zero in front of every outgoing call, incoming call as are registred as 0033123456 but should be be registred as +4633123456. When receiving SMS everything seem to to work out as it should whit the swedish prefix.

I would like all calls (and text msgs) to be registred with the swedish prefix. Is this possible? Thanks a lot!
