You have a good chance of getting old bootrom.

Do you have the ability to turn on the phone and put it into DFU mode? That is the only way to 100% guarantee bootrom version.

Look at this post for details. PwnageTool 3.1.4 for Mac OS X

Bonus, you get the ECID also and you can use The Firmware Umbrella to see if that phone has a saved SHSH on Cydia for 3.1.2 or not.

    Question

    Thanks for replying !!!

well, unfortunatley I have no chance to open it, since its ceiled.. !

What if I buy it, and did the Jailbreak, of course if it is with new iBoot I will be stuck in the connect to itunes logo everytime I reboot... but at least I will have Cydia installed to Backup my SHSHs on file... right ? or Is it not worth anymore since there is no signing for 3.1.2 or 3.1 anymore... ?

I faced this in another 3GS, officially unlocked, in fact I jail broke it without doing any reading... but I pressed the make my life easier, when it was having 3.1.2 , and when the phone faced lot of problems I restored it to 3.1.3, But umbrella gives me that I got 3.1.3 SHSH only... and no 3.1.2 which is very strange.. !

Do you think this 3GS can be downgraded if it has only 3.1.3 SHSH ??

    Please help.

    Regards
    Luis

You can only get 3.1.3 SHSH now.

Just because you pressed the "make my life easier" button when the phone was running 3.1.2 does not mean you will get 3.1.2 SHSH. All that gets sent from your phone is the ECID to Cydia. Once Cydia has this, it gets put into a queue to query Apple for your personalised SHSH for each OS Apple is still signing at that time.

3.1.3 SHSH will be important in the future, it is worth getting it and keeping it safe.

It is not possible to downgrade a 3GS without a 3.1.2 or lower SHSH.

Ok, is it possible to modify the ( iBoot ) ... I mean cant we clone an old iBoot from lower version devices on newly 3GSs iBoot ?? I mean in software nothing is impossible to be done... !

In addition, we used to point pwnage to older versions when wanted to Jailbreak newly iPhones with new firmwares.. So, can we dream that there might be sometime in the ( NEAR ) future a possibility like this happening ?

Dont you think that APPLE by doing this game... people will start to Migrate from iPhones to G-Phones ??

    Regards
    Luis

the iBoot that causes the tethered jailbreak is hardware so it is not possible to update it.

So, Specifically speaking about Officially Unlocked iPhones the main problem that we are now facing in Jailbreaking a 3.1.3 with whatever the base band was, is the iBoot problem ? And it is not the Firmware it self ( 7E18 )...!! ( Pls Correct me.. ) .

with 3.1.3 and 3GS, yes it is the reluctance to disclose a new iBoot (recovery mode) exploit that is holding back a new jailbreak.

Don't confuse bootrom (DFU) with iBoot (recovery mode) It is easy to confuse this because the bootrom is for example iBoot-359.3, this is hardware and can't be upgraded. The recovery mode iBoot can be upgraded because it is stored in NOR (on everything except the 3rd gen iPod touch)

From your experience... from which iPhone Firmware Apple started to release the new iBoot ? I mean, can we consider it from 3.1 ? or from 3.1.1 ? bcz the iPhone that I intend to buy definitly contains 3.1 or 3.1.1, since I saw it in the shop at the time that 3.1.2 was not released yet...

So, do you think if it was 3.1 or 3.1.1 that it might contain the old iBoot ??

    Regards
    Luis

    Default Re: Shall I buy this iPhone ? Week 41 3GS ??

The recovery mode iBoot can be jailbroken up to and including 3.1.2

The bootrom iboot version determines whether the jailbreak is untethered on not (that is where the week number from the serial helps a bit)
