    Default Roll back to 3.1.2

    Hi,

I have an iPhone 3g. I had it jailbroken and unlocked using Blackrain (or was it snow). Either way, happily working along. After see postive reviews of iOS4 even on a 3G, I went ahead and used Pwnage tool to upgrad to iOS4. However, even after restarting and restoring several times, my phone just doesn't feel snappy as it used to, and I see no real need for iOS4.

I don't believe that I used the "make my life easier" option in Cydia, so is there some way that I can roll back to 3.1.2 on my iPhone. I have a Mac, so can use Pwnage Tool. Also, my baseband is still at the 5.11.07 level, so that isn't a problem.

My instinct was to simply download the appropirate 3.1.2 ipsw from iPhone wiki, restore from that (currently running iTunes 9.2), and then jailbreak again. Is that possibe? Do I need an older iTunes version.

At the end of the day, my phone currently works fine, just a bit sluggish. I don't want a brick, so is this possible to achieve with a low risk of bricking?

    Cheers,
    Sam

There is now way of downgrading any iPhone without shsh blobs saved.

Best thing to do is check if you did have them saved just by chance.

Thanks for the response. I'm confused though, I've done some more research and it seems that the 3G (original 3G, not a 3GS) doesn't need SHSH blobs, is that true or am I just misunderstanding.

No, Apple won't sign the firmware.

They only sign the latest one (ios4.0), that's why saurik saves the shsh - so his servers can sign the firmware when installing/restoring

If any luck cydia servers may have your shsh as it was pending.

Thanks again. I've given up on rolling back, as tiny umbrella says my shsh blob is invalid and just gives some X's, and I see nothing Cydia to indicate that my blobs were backed up.

However, I did install an app from Cydia that lets you free memory from the Springboard (sbsettings maybe?). It certainly helps a lot. It's not all the way back to iOS3 levels of performance, but anybody else that is disappointed with the speed of their 3G after the upgrade, may want to check it out. It's a bit of a nuisance, but we're all probably varying degrees of geek here, so it's not a huge issue.

Just restore to 312 in DFU, then use FW Umbrella to kick out of recovery after you get 1015 error on restore.
You don't need SHSH for 3G, it only appeared in 3GS models.

msft.guy is 100% correct and Leon is 100% incorrect.

The iPhone 3G can be upgraded/downgraded to any version firmware without having to mess with SHSH files. That was a hardware change that was added with the 3GS but does not impact the iPhone 2G/3G.

You can just restore to 3.1.2 in DFU mode and use FW Umbrella / iRecovery / etc. to kick out of recovery.

I know you already got the answer but I just wanted to expound upon and confirm that msft.guy is correct here -- there's a pretty easy solution to what you're looking to do.
The preceding forum post has been brought to you by the letter "N" and the number 42.

    iPhone 4, 32GB (iOS 6.1.2 | evasi0n | SHSH: 4.0 - 6.1.2)
    iPad 2 3G, 64GB (iOS 6.1.2 | evasi0n
    |
    SHSH: 4.3 & 4.3.3 - 6.1)

I am in the same boat as the O.P. except that I am on baseband 5.12.01 (accidentally upgraded to 3.1.3 one day when I wasn't paying attention).

I tried using pwnagetool 4.0.1 to install the 3.1.2 firmware (tried 3.1.3 also), but it doesn't recognize the ipsw file, I get an error: "Wrong firmware bundle selected".

After reading your post here I looked around a little bit, trying to find instructions on how to restore from DFU mode, but I need the phone unlocked (am living in New Zealand with my iPhone I brought here when I moved from the U.S.). Does that mean I'm hosed since it looks like pwnagetool 4.0.1 doesn't support the older firmware?

How? I have 3Gs(Old BootRom) with iOS 4.0 installed. How can I downgrade to 3.1.2 without having .shsh file?

DONT using irecovery to get out of recovery loop, I did and it stopped my USB from working and so had no keyboard or mouse control.. Cost me 2hrs and £40 in dell assistance to sort it.

Use 'quickpwn' to get out of loop, it's so much easyier and no risk!
