Default Quick Question - 3.1.3 Upgrade

Just a quickie before I hit the upgrade buttons

I have an untethered 3GS from the first few weeks still on the 4x baseband. I want to upgrade the baseband and go to a 3.1.3 jailbreak as described here iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3GS Using PwnageTool [Mac]

My iPhone is carrier unlocked so I'd like to get baseband up to it's latest. How do I do this? I have SHSH's only for 3.0.1 (which is my current FW).

Bit strange you only have SHSH for 3.0.1

    You have a few options:

    1. Extract out the baseband and upgrade manually. See http://www.hackint0sh.org/f203/90394-2.htm#post455536 and http://www.hackint0sh.org/f203/90394...htm#post500077 for hints on how to do this
    2. Modify the ramdisk on a pwnagetool custom ipsw to turn on the baseband upgrade (which pwnagetool normally turns off)
    3. Restore to original 3.1.3, use 3.0.1 SHSH to downgrade to 3.0.1 then restore to pwnagetool custom 3.1.3.

Each option has advantages and disadvantages. The last option looks simple but reports are downgrades from 3.1.x to 3.0.x need to be run twice, it often fails the first time due to some changes in the way the NAND is partitioned.

I run my 3GS (factory unlocked) with the 04.26.08 baseband and OS 3.1.x - works fine. You don't have to upgrade your baseband if you don't experience problems with the current version.

K, my SHSH is for 3.0 not 3.0.1 - my mistake.

I've tried Option 3 - gone to Origional 3.1.3 and then tried to go back down to 3.0. It contacts Apple servers, prep's the iPhone (sets it to restore mode) then says "An unknown error has occurred(4)". At which point the phone is "stuck" in recovery mode. Can't go to 3.0, 3.0.1 or 3.1.3 (custom) so am currently restoring back to 3.1.3 standard.

So it restored back to a clean 3.1.3 original apple firemware, then I attempted to downgrade again to 3.0 - same thing, except this time "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (20)."

Persistence pays off! Currently flashing back to 3.0 firmware! Had to put the bugger in DFU mode - normal recovery wouldn't do it...

yeah I should have mentioned you needed to use DFU mode for that.

Now just to reload with custom 3.1.3 and you are set.
