I need some help. About a year ago or more I Quickpawned my 3G phone with 2.2.1 So since then I've noticed my phone getting slower and acting up a bit. My upgrading option is coming up soon and I'd love to pass this phone on to my GF but I want to have it updated and working with all the bells and whistles.

My problem is, I have firmware 2.2.1. I want to upgrade it. But since i've used Quickpawn can I just use another program and it work? I don't have many apps or music. But I want to have video capibilty and receive MMS messages through text. I downloaded Swirly but it was a waste. I have AT&T

What is a program that will work??? (i tried blacksnow but nothing happened)

Can I just plug into Itunes and it update the firmware if I tell it? (i'm thinking no)

If I do a master reboot in Itunes do I get rid of pwnage altogether?


Any help would be appreciative....I'm really confused!

You did not mention what OS you are running.

If you are on Windows, you might want to start with this guide. This gets you to 3.0.x and gets you jailbroken again.

iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3G on OS 3.0.x Using RedSn0w (Windows)

Once you are on OS 3.0.x you should take the time to check that everything is still working fine (especially wifi) before jumping to 3.1.2 as there is generally no way to downgrade the baseband on the 3G.

If you have access to a Mac, pwnagetool gives you more options and control over the process. Importantly it can block baseband upgrades which, although not so important because you are on AT&T, may help you avoid the reported wifi problems that many users (including non jailbroken ones) have reported with OS 3.x especially OS 3.1.x

Did you mean blackra1n? That is only for people who get iPhones with 3.1.2 or maybe 3.1 pre-loaded on them from Apple. Or those who have accidentally updated to 3.1.2 because iTunes told them to. Blacksn0w is an unlock for the baseband included in OS 3.1.x, you don't need that if you are on AT&T.

This would remove your jailbreak, but traces would still remain and your iPhone would likely still be slow.

The way to get rid of pwnage totally is to put your 3G iPhone into DFU mode and restore with an original apple ipsw.

Your girlfriend needs to upgrade to either 3.0 or 3.1.2, then install the correct MMS patch for the OS (http://www.hackint0sh.org/f207/77019.htm for iPhone OS 3.0) or (http://www.hackint0sh.org/f207/93057.htm)

Is your girlfriend on AT&T? If so you need to manually get the AT&T ipcc file version 6.5 and load that onto your iPhone.

Any other (unofficial) carrier should use http://www.volkspost.info/ipcc_fw3/ to create an load a carrier bundle (ipcc) for the carrier you use. Make sure you either specify the correct MMS details in the carrier bundle (you can also edit these later if necessary).

There's plenty of details about this on the forum, look around and read both those threads well.
