it's not as if it is "unsafe" to use iTunes v.7.7.1 it's just that depending on what fw your iPhone is running and what your plans are you might have to use iTunes v.7.5 to get everything working properly.

im using firmware 2.0 1.1.1 3.9 bl otb itunes 7.7.1 should be fine?

one more question i put my iphone in dfu mode by holding down power and home button nothing pops ups on the screen like supposed to but when plugged in to my computer it says my iphone is in recovery mode did i properly put it in dfu mode
