[PwnageTool] How to load Custom IPSW image ?
Dear toshies,
Veteran ROM flasher from my current AT&T Tilt, just moving into the world of iPhone flashing.
I have a shiny new (used) 8GB iPhone. Stuck in my current AT&T SIM Card and fired up WinPwn as instructed in the FAQ. Downloaded stock Apple 1.1.4 firmware. Pwned it successfully. Downloaded 4.6 and 3.9 bootloaders, pointed to the files. Checked all desired options (Activate, Enable baseband update, Neuter Bootloader, Unlock Baseband, Autodelete bootneuter.app). Queued up a few apps to install, checked custom logos, and clicked Build ipsw.
Status window showed that it finished.
Now, how do I get this ROM image onto my iPhone? I thought WinPwn would do it for me...
Cheers,

So I guess I needed to copy the custom ROM over the previously downloaded stock Apple ROM in the Apple Software Update folder? I did, anyway. Loading up now, hoping this works.
Might be useful to add this very last step to the FAQ.

For your pwned IPSW files use iTunes to restore. (option+click "restore" and choose your custom IPSW.
You should have it running already. Did it work?

Basically do what you've done already, Open Winpwn an the STOCK firmware. Then you need to hit the "IPwner" button. This flashes the actual phone in order to allow it to accept the custom firmware bulit with Winpwn. Then all you need to do is put the Iphone in to recovery mode, open up itunes hold the shift key an hit the restore button, then locate the custom FW that u built an restore. Then the jobs a good'un.
Peacee

Sorry for delayed response, but everything worked like a charm. Thanks all!
FWIW, I would recommend changing step 3. in the sticky / FAQ to be more explicit, and even repeated lower down in the post perhaps. Steps 1 and 2 are detailed thoroughly, but there is no review of step 3 that I saw in the detailed FAQ. Just a suggestion.
Now I'm trying to decide which apps I should hard flash vs. install after the flash. :-)
