You could just upgrade to 1.1.4.
Then use iTunes to sync.
It will keep your contacts on the phone!
You could then just activate the phone so you can sync it if your not on an official contact before using pwnage and upgrading to 2.0.

Re-pwn or not re-pwn?
Could someone put me straight on this process,my iphone was 1.1.4 ootb and pwned using pwnage tool 1.1 and restored with custom firmware 1.1.4 built by pwnage tool 1.1.So the question is can I just use pwnage tool 2.0.1 to make custom firmware 2.0 and then restore that to my already pwned iphone using itunes or do I need to re-pwn my iphone using Pwnage tool 2.0.1 and then restore the custom firmware 2.0 built with pwnage tool 2.0.1.The reason I ask is that I have had 2 crashes where the iphone crashes to apple boot logo and I cannot get past it without restoring the custom firmware 2.0 again. Is that anything to do with not re-pwning using 2.0.1.The iphone never crashed on custom firmware 1.1.4/pwnage tool 1.1. only since I restored using custom firmware 2.0/pwnage tool 2.0.1.......crikey I hope someone understands this and replies.

It would help if there were spaces!
So let me see if I understand you...
You have a pwned 1.1.4 and you restored using pwnagetool to a custom 2.0 firmware and now it is crashing and getting stuck on the boot logo?
If I was you I would make a new custom 2.0 firmware and restore with that as it sounds like the firmware you made is buggy!

So i've got a 1.0.2 OOTB iPhone that I upgraded to 1.1.1 (which is what it's at right now). To get to 2.0 I need to upgrade to 1.1.4 then to 2.0 with winpwn? I just want to make sure before I go through with it. Don't want to brick the phone.

Thank You Spinstorm for your reply.I was wondering if the firmware was buggy,I made it in expert mode and unchecked the boot logos as I wanted apple logos and not the pineapple, everything else was left alone, would this have any effect on making it buggy.Where can I get the firmware from a reliable source as everytime I download firmware 2.0 it always seems to be the 3g firmware.I did manage to locate the 2g firmware but the source was not the best choice and may of been buggy as you say....so I do not need to re-pwn with 2.0.1 then? as it is already been pwned. Is that right?

You can go directly from any firmware to custom 2.0 firmware.
You just have to make the custom firmware using pwnage/winpwn then put the phone in DFU to "pwn" the phone so it accepts the custom firmware.
Follow the winpwn instructions.
If you have trouble then just go up to 1.1.4 then pwn your phone and restore using custom 2.0...but to answer your question you can go direct to 2.0 custom from any firmware.
If you want to download the correct firmware you can connect your iPhone and click on restore - iTunes will download the correct firmware for you for your phone.
iPhone original starts iPhone1,1_2.0 ....
iPhone 3G starts iPhone1,2_2.0...

I want to be able to use Installer and 1.1.4 apps. Also, I understand 1.1.4 firmware to be more stable. So, any advice on how to do the downgrade would be appreciated.

The recently updated FAQ says this:
If you want to relock your phone - use bootneuter and click everything to off. Then restore with Apple firmware. And you are back to factory fresh.
Can anyone confirm that this actually worked?

I can confirm it worked myself.
Everything to off then reflash then restore to apple firmware snd its sorted!
As for going back to 1.1.4 there are a few guides to this I suggest you use the search.
The main issue with going back to 1.1.4 is that your baseband gets stuck on 2.0...and then you have to delete it.... however!...
PwnageTool's custom 1.1.4 IPSWs should allow you to go back to 1.1.4 using just the resore button.
If you don't have pwnagetool 1.0 then download it from thepiratebay.org.
Make your custom 1.1.4 IPSW and restore in itunes.
Your baseband MAY be changed back to 1.1.4 (depends on the 2.0 IPSW setting and 1.1.4 setting about "enabling baseband update") or it may not.
If you make a custom IPSW with unlock in 1.1.4 and the baseband stays 2.0 then BootNeuter will fail to flash the baseband - the phone will still work but I am just telling you that there WILL be an error.
IF you cant restore to 1.1.4 using a custom IPSW (which you should be able to) then use DFU mode to go back.
Personally I would wait as Installer will be out soon!

I don't have an interest in downgrading to 1.1.4. 2.0 is great. My iPhone is the first first generation, it came with 1.0 out of the box so it has the older bootloader 3.9 I think. Will that make a difference? Did you test it on an iPhone that came with 1.1.2?
Also I don't know if this is important but way back like a year ago I unlocked my iPhone with iUnlock.app (ancient.. I know). Then I ran a script that supposedly virginized my iPhone and then upgraded to 1.1.2 all the way to 2.0 legally and without jailbreaking or anything like that.
I just want to be able to restore my iPhone's baseband to factory condition because I want to unlock just for my one week of travels abroad (I plan on using a local sim card in the country I'm going to), otherwise I'm a legit AT&T customer.
