I will go from 1.1.4 to 2.0
Do i need to upgrade with 2.0 original with itunes before start pwnage.
Or I can just prepare custom 2.0 and go with it directly from 1.1.4

You can use pwnagetool 1 or winpwn to pwn your phone at 1.1.4. Its easy.

Then make your custom 2.0 firmware and restore with it using the "restore" buttom.

No messing around with DFU mode. I think its easier that way!

I think you don't need to upgrade. Just creat custom ipsw and after Pwnaging put in DFU mode and use itunes to restore.

I have another question though. How can I backup all my contacts and after upgrading restore them? I also want to edit and add +612 to the beginning of the numbers because iPhone not indicate names when contacts are not in international format?

Use iTunes to sync your contacts to outlook/address book depending on if your on PC/Mac.

Then you just re-sync them! Thats what iTunes is for!

You can edit your numbers inside outlook/address book or whatever you sync it with and then when you sync your phone back it will add the numbers.

There should be another easier way of editing contacts. There is a file named "addressbook.ldif" in var/root directory. When you open it you can see all contacts in txt format. I can easily batch edit contacts. For example if I want to add international code I can rename 09399 to +6129399 and replace all and save the file and return it back to iPhone. Actually I did test this procedure but didn't worked. I might have made a mistake but there should be a similar procedure without using iTunes. I never liked iTunes.

I don't really think using outlook and copying and pasting the international code on the front is particuarly difficult! lol

What should I do if I have a first gen phone I got from a legit AT&T customer second hand and they had upgraded to 2.0. The phone has never been unlocked or jailbroken. I would like to go back to 1.1.4 and unlock/jailbreak -- how should I proceed. A section on downgrading would be useful in the FAQ.

Why do you want to downgrade?

Just jailbreak/unlock 2.0 and use it as it is...

It is difficult. First of all I did sync with itunes 7.7 but no contact appeared in outlook (may be because I am still on 1.0.2 and itunes 7.7 works with FW 2.0) . Secondly I have about few hundred contacts and copying and pasting one by one would be difficult but with a txt editor I just use "replace all" and in a second all will be changed.
