Default [PwnageTool] Do you need to Restore for every new Firmware Update ?

OK , so we gotta restore the phone to pwn it.

But do we have to restore it again and pwn when there is a new firmware available ? Isnt this going to be a pain to resave all the contacts and the apps etc. ?

Or after pwning once, does it let us update the version from itunes without locking the phone again ?

    sorry for bad english ppl.

Every new firmware will require a restore, although in theory it is possible to update it - iTunes needs to see an update as being available and right now thats not how pwnage works.

On the positive side - there is an app in development - SEE THE FAQ - which will let you add any apps you want to the custom firmware BEFORE you restore so all you have to do is resync the phone with contacts/emails/music etc but all 3rd party apps will be already there waiting for you!

    FW 1.1.3 OOB --> 1.1.4 --> iPlus 1.2 unlocked!

    not 100% correct.
you can update for example from 1.1.4 custom to 2.0 custom through iTunes (shift + upgrade).
your settings videos and music are keeped, but you have to install all apps again

Actually once you are pwned, from that point on you should only do "update", not restore.

What difference does it make if you still use the custom firmware - apart from not having to re-sync all media?

You can't update a standard apple firmware as it will unpwn the phone and relock it? Correct?

And if your using a custom firmware update then I don't see the difference!

    Please explain! Thanks.

I meant "should" in the sense that then you don't have to resync your contacts and all that. I can't tell you how many pictures I've lost because I forgot they were there and I did a restore

He is saying that BUT it has to be an upgrade with a new custom firmware NOT the standard Apple firmware.

Lets say 2.0 official comes out then select unlock again when we build the new firmware then will bootneuter have to reflash the baseband to unlock it or will it already be unlocked when it boots up and bootneuter will say nothing needs to be changed?

What I am basically asking is - once the bootloader is neutered - would pwnage add the already unlocked baseband in the firmware OR would bootneuter unlock it on start?

BootNeuter would skip the bootloader flash part (since you're already neutered) and proceed to the baseband flash part. Although there is no BootNeuter yet for 1.2.0 or 2.0 because the SDK is all different. But you can always unlock future basebands (if you're neutered) by following the steps on this wiki page
