I also tried plugin it in before letting go of the home button and no joy.. as soon as i plug it in it turns on! i've read the instructions over and over and im sure im couting 10secs right, anything else im missing?
    1)Plug In
    2)Hold power + Home for 10 s
    3)you know the rest

let me elaborate more on that (hope you don't mind fallenczar).
    1) Turn on phone
    2) plug in and let itunes detect the device
    3) hold power + home
    4) red slider shows and phone will reboot
    5) count 1-6 or 7
    6) let go power and continue holding home (you want to let go power BEFORE the apple appears - if you miss it, start over)
    7) Itunes will detect phone in DFU mode (now shift-click restore and select fw)

You know you are in DFU mode if the screen on the iphone is black. If the screen shows cd+cable then you are in recovery/restore mode.

You been lucky and hit on the most incompetent service employ in apple land.

In any case, the DFU trick would have worked just fine

hmm if it's error 1011 there is not much to do... well now u don't have anything to think about it. (btw dfu would not work for that issue)

anyway it seems like pwnage is doing few damages at the end no?

Yea I know I am extremely lucky..The guy that was helping me was helping 3 people at once so I guess he was too overwhelmed to go to technical and just took the lazy way out which was good for me...So what is this DFU and how would I have used it..???

Sam, i have a phone here that cant restore from DFU, no matter the firmware tried, i tried PWNED BUT (goes all the way through, then gets stuck on Determining status in BootNeuter... its not PWNED fault, in this case it WAS Ziphone that the owner ran and did a "Refresh my phone" or whatever it is.. got no service, then eventaully got "Repair Needed" and now everytime i restore i get 1101 and i cant even jailbreak this thing, too bad i am not in the states to try a replacement from apple, this one is going under the knife and will get the guts from another that has no touchscreen..
