How about you try to pwn it with 1.1.4 ipsw (ipwner)? Maybe that would work...and then you might be able to install any firmware.

No, if you try to use iPwner the device is still in the DFU mode, but the pwnageTool is unable to recognize the device:

07.05.2008 00:07:00 - Putting iPhone into recovery mode.

The iPhone will be taken in DFU mode but no further actions from the Pwnage.

It doesnt matter if you use pwnage on mac or win.

If you try to downgrade using iTunes you will get the error message "1604" and if you are using Xcode the Mac will not find the iPhone after putting in DFU mode ,also.

Can you use Ziphone or something to kick it out of DFU mode?

I am assuming you were at pink screen before you tried the pwning thing?? I mean, I had pink screen issue before and downgrading was very simple. I've always used pwnage 1.1.

I tried it again on my Mac with my originally ATT card:

    -"Pink issue" (silde for emergency)
    -start pwnage
    -selected the "iPhone1,1_1.1.4_4A102_Restore.ipsw" firmware
    -"iPwner"
-closed iTunes as I should do it for pwnage
    -putted it in recovery mode
    -closed iTunes again
-get the message "Connect your iPhone/iPod and put it into recovery mode" (iPhone is still in DFU mode)
    -nothing happens

    2008-05-07 00:28:26 - Loaded .ipsw file from '/Users/enno/iPhone/iPhone1,1_1.1.4_4A102_Restore.ipsw'.

    ------------------------------
    2008-05-07 00:29:06 - Unzipping .ipsw file to /tmp/ipsw.

    2008-05-07 00:29:14 - Attaching custom ramdisk to '/Volumes/iPwnerRamdisk'.
    2008-05-07 00:29:18 - OK
    2008-05-07 00:29:18 - Updating custom ramdisk.
    2008-05-07 00:29:18 - OK
    2008-05-07 00:29:18 - Detaching custom ramdisk from '/Volumes/iPwnerRamdisk'.
    2008-05-07 00:29:19 - OK

    For ZiPhone:
    -"pink issue"
    -start ZiPhone 3.0
    -choosed "jailbreak"

Click a button to perform an action.

hmmm...well, what I meant earlier was that try to use ZiPhone to boot into normal mode...not Jailbreak.

There should be an option in the ZiPhone menus such as "Boot into Normal Mode" along with other optoins as "Boot into DFU Mode" or "Boot into Recovery Mode." Try using that to boot into normal mode.

And also, try to fiddle with the phone such as holding down the power button to turn it off and then turn the phone back on again and see which mode its in. Then try again but this time holding both buttons down and then letting go of the power button when the apple logo comes up...maybe it just might let you out of DFU and into Recovery which is much better!

I have exactly the same problem: It shows error 1604 when I try to restore with iTunes.

I have an (OOTB 1.1.2) AT&T iPhone with no contract

    What I did:

    - Had a working ziphoned (unlocked) 1.1.4 iphone
    - pwnaged it with 1.1.4 => worked fine
    - upgraded to firmware 2.0 beta 3 with pwnage => worked fine
    - upgraded to beta 4 (I am now in the iPhone dev program and wanted to test my app)
    - got the pink screen with emergency slider
    - tried to activate it using ziphone
    - now iPhone is always on DFU mode (Black screen with itunes logo and cable)

When I tryto get out of DFU mode with Ziphone it says:

    Checking ZiPhone integrity...
    i386
    Searching for iPhone...

And nothing happens. Seems like Ziphone does not find the iPhone

When I try it with iTunes, it recognizes that there is an iPhone in DFU Mode. When I try to restore it it stops with Error 1604. Nothing happens on the iPhone screen. It is only showing the DFU Screen. No status bar or spinning wheel ...

    Please help!!!!!

    Thanks,
    Hecht11

My iPhone is working again :-)

The thing is, that when you see the itunes logo, it is NOT the DFU mode. This is the recovery mode. To fix your phone you need to be in DFU mode! see: http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=27348

If your iPhone is in DFU mode (black screen without itunes logo) you can install firmware 1.1.4 with itunes. After installing, the iPhone is in recovery mode (itunes logo) and itunes reports an error (1015). You can ignore this error. Just start Ziphone 3.0 and do whatever you want (activate, unlock, jailbreak ...) After the phone is activated with ziphone you can pwnage it without problems.

If you like to install Beta 4 or 5 I recommend to wat until pwnage 1.2 is out!!!
