It doesn't work. this time I jailbreaked with blackra1n rc2, then connected with MAC to do a custom ipsw, then using mac restore to custom firmware. It did processed without any error but when it rebooted a blank screen on iphone. Itune said that it is in recovery mode. Nothing worked other than restoring back to 3.1.2

How do you know if your iphone has got the new bootrom?
I've successfully jailbroken one iphone using blackra1n for windows.
Tried it with another but failed. Tried it with pwnage on mac and failed too.
Each time I switch the phone off iTunes detects it as being in recovery mode and I need to restore.
Both phones where bought within the last two weeks.

Your second phone sounds like it has the new bootrom.
How to check your iPhone's bootrom: courtesy phoeny at the Dev-Team blog:
using Windows:
Put your iPhone into DFU mode
(how to/tutorial for this step)
Then go to Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager on your Windows machine.
Look for 'Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller', you will find 'Apple Mobile Device USB Driver' as a subitem there.
Right Click and choose 'Properties', navigate to 'Details' tab and select Device Instance Path from the dropdown list box. At the end of this information string you will find the bootrom version, e.g. [iBoot-359.x]
using OSX:
Put your iPhone into DFU mode
(how to/tutorial for this step)
Open System Profiler and navigate to Hardware -> USB in the left menu.
In the USB Device Tree pane at top right, click on 'Apple Mobile Device (DFU Mode).'
In the information pane at bottom right, locate the 'Serial Number' string. At the end of this information string you will find the bootrom version, e.g. [iBoot-359.x].

I´m comfused. Is it not possible to jailbreak iPhones with the new bootrom.
Am I correct that it will work with Blackra1n but when you turn your phone off, you will have to do it over again?

It is not possible to jailbreak them using pwnagetool.
You are correct that it works with blackra1n but you need to repeat each time you turn your iPhone off

3.14 pwnage jailbroken and unlocked
to Olethros:
you recently provided guidance on restoring my 3Gs (mac operating system)
and making a 2nd jailbreak and unlock so that i could restore my push notifications... It worked fine for about 2 weeks
Just recently my push notifications have stopped working again with an APP called "Stocktrac Pro",even thought the itunes utility "Ipush test" continues to work and sends me push notifications.
The author of Stocktrac is really helpful and has done a few tests and assures me that they are working fine from his end here is his comments
Here's the log. You are user XXX .... Looks like these tickers all triggered and a push notification was sent. I double checked that you have current info set for your phone and it's all there. I'm not sure what to do from here...
Can you suggest what might have caused the failure. as we originally discussed i restored with my authorised SIM
Thanks
Derek

I just got a 3GS and wanted to unlock/jailbreak the phone. I read this post to figure out what my boot rom version is, but don't get results like in the OP.
The reason that this is important is that I read that I can't do a reboot or let the battery go flat without tethering. This is sometimes an issue when I'm traveling, so before I go through the Blackra1n/blacksn0w process, I wanted to make sure that the unit will boot on its own.
I'm running:
Modem FW: 05.11.07
FW: 3.11 (7C144)
When I put it in DFU mode, Iget the following info from the serial number:
CPID 8920 CPRV: 14 CPFM: 03 SCEP: 03 BDID: 00
ECID: my ecid
IBFL: 02
SRNM: [my serial number] IMEI: [my imei number]
Suggestions? What boot rom do I have?

Firstly, remove your ECID from the previous posting.. It is also a unique value for your iPhone and I would recommend you keep it to yourself.
You should see an iBoot version in the same list that gave you ECID and so on. I am surprised you did not see that.

nope, it's not in the string. in fact, I just tried it on my "real" mac running Leopard since the first try was on my Dell Mini10v running Snow Leopard. Same results.
I will say, however, that the serial number starts with 87929 and from other topics, I see that the 4th and 5th digits are the week number and that the new bootrom is for weeks after 40, so should I be OK here? (does this mean that I get an untethered jailbreak?)
