    Tmobile user here:

    I have no problem losing 3rd party for a short time (week or two) if I can update to 2.1 the normal way in Itunes and keep the unlock. I know when I updated from 2.0 to 2.0.2 it kept the unlock. So as long as someone else out there with a 2g phone says Unlock doesn't get broken then I will update tonight.

    The lag and bugs and battery life are driving me up the wall.

    EDIT: cprail posted that while I was typing, so I will be updating tonight. I will quickpwn it later.
    1.1.4 iLiberty+ -> WinPwned -> BootNeuter -> Custom Pwned to 2.0 -> Upgrade to 2.1 -> QuickPwned
    -> Restored to 2.2.1 -> WinPwned -> Upgrade to 3.0 -> Redsnow'd

    A friend of mine updated his pwned 2.0.2 / 2G iPhone (Unlocked / Jailbreaked) but now it doesn´t accept his SIM card anymore.

    How can he get back to 2.02? Can he ...

    1. restore the 2.0.2 custom firmware with iTunes in Restore Mode?
    2. restore the 2.0.2 custom firmware with iTunes in DFU Mode?
    3. do nothing?

    Maybe it's only asking him to input the pin for the sim card...
    Slide to open and input the pin...

    restore the iphone to 2.0.2 custom firmware in DFU mode.
    it happened to me as well. here is what i did.

    1.1.4 > 2.0.2 > 2.1 (Success)

    1. alt+Restore to 2.0.2(Original FW) in iTunes 7.7.1
    2. Use Quickpwn and pwn 2.0.2 fw
    3. Phone pwned(activated/unlocked), but no service after quickpwn.
    4. Use Pwnage Tool(latest version) and make custom 2.0.2 ipsw.
    5. alt+Restore to custom 2.0.2(custom fw) in iTunes 7.7.1 (might need to include BootNeuter and neuter the baseband just in case)

    At this stage, I got back my service (could make calls/send sms)

    6. Update to 2.1

    p.s Everytime I did a restore, I set the iPhone in DFU mode.

    That's it.

    1st gen iPhone w/ 2.1 FW still unlocked and working fine, period.
    Custom 201 FW using Pwnage Tool w/ no QuickPwn, Installer + Cydia.
    It's wonderful.
