Default [Pwnage Tool 2.0.2] Installer.app 4 Only Question?

    Hey guys,

Just wondering something, is it okay for a person to just Jailbreak and uncheck Cydia all together, and only include Installer.app? I mean I realize, that there is basically nothing on Installer.app for right now, since they are still converting all the repos over and porting apps. BUT is there a way a person could download BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH sometime in the future? Or even right?

I mean I'd much rather use Installer.app 4 as a stand alone app.

Please if anyone has any suggestions let me know,

also if anyone has new repo addresses for Installer.app let me know? I would love to get NES.app somehow and I guess I would need OpenSSH as well.

What pl_svn means is, there is actually no content available on Installer 4 at all. In fact, you have a dozen replacement images/sort of application themes, about 5 apps and that's it.

Currently custom apps for FW 2.0 are all on Cydia, and will take some time until they appears on Installer. If you can wait -- as I am --, then that's ok to have only Installer. If not, I would go with Cydia and later you can remove one to install other, either by restoring your phone or by installing app from each other -- much probably that will happen at any time.

Hey thanks man. That's exacty what I was planning on doing just having Installer.app on my phone but waiting for some apps you know. I'm in no hurry so it's not a big deal to me, plus like I said I just would much rather use Installer as a stand alone app. more user friendly.

From the info on the BETA page of Installer.app it says the new repositories are almost ready and will be coming in shortly so I'm hoping there will be a BSD Subsytem/OpenSSH available at sometime soon. Well here's to hoping.

my recommendation: uncheck the useless Installer!
I donīt understand why the pwnage was delayed for this crapy tool. It does not work at all on my iphone. only error messages and crashes

I didnīt get it why there is the need for Installer4 at all? Cyria is so well implemented now. Why go many steps back???

A lot of people just love how simple installer was. Cydia has been around for a while but not too many people use before until fw 2.0. At first Cydia may look confusing to people. I myself found Cydia confusing (when I was at 1.1.4) at first but I love it now because I did not have any other choices with fw 2.0.x. I hope installer 4 official release will be good and more sources will be available for people.

I don't think it's a step back if you are referring to installer 4. It just give people choices. For me, I like Cydia now. I will use both when the dust settles.

Just to add one. Installer is still in beta. All the repos have to be re-organized. I guess we will see updates soon and more apps. It's good to me having another choice. Same as dtube I started using Cydia only when 2.0 came out, like the solution now a lot.

    just my 2 cent

Left aside the beta status and all the error messages and no content.... WHY would you want the BSD that also came with errors like the passwd problem etc. So you'd anyway want the cydia unix tools.

Really... why would you want to exchange your perfectly *working* cydia and tools with all the content available now for something that *doesn't* work with no content????
And why are people saying "installer was so easy". What's complicated about cydia? it's almost exactly the same from the interface. It's even better, i.e. when you install something and go back it will stay in the selected list and not go back to the overall etc. And you can do proper re-installs of ever package.
Installer doesn't even show a preview of the theme packages (as far as I've seen)...

... you asked and I answered your question. what's wrong about "sure, you can"?

then... I added my opinion (but, as you can see, it's not just my opinion ) about what you are trying to do. or... I am only allowed to say what *you* want and the way *you* want?

(thnx hquest and Kerry for clarifying my thought! )
