Question Pwnage not finding firmware after factory restore 3G

Hello! I’m new to the forum and need some help/advice for jailbreaking my iphone….

I followed the instructions for pwnage 3.1.5. (I had iphone version 3.1.3.)
My customized .ispw file was created, but instead of pressing option+restore, I stupidly restored to apple’s factory settings. So now I have:
    Version: 3.1.3
    Baseband 5.12.01
But now when I try to restore using the customized ispw file, it says “firmware not compatible” and will not allow it. (I also downloaded a 3.1.3 OS ispw and it won’t let me restore to that file either.) Most importantly, now when I run pwnage, it doesn’t find any firmware on my iphone.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? My guess is that the new baseband is preventing any other firmware versions to be restored to my iphone, but pwnage should still find the firmware on my phone so I can create a new customized ispw. Phone has never been jailbroken before.

I’m confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

By restoring to 3.1.3 you have removeds the pwnage that allows the restoration of custom ipsw.

Due to this, you can't just restore with custom ipsw in iTunes. You need to re-pwn the phone first.

There are a couple of ways to achieve this.

Possibly the fastest way is to jailbreak 3.1.3 with redsn0w 0.9.2 and then restore custom IPSW

Thanks so much for the reply. If I jailbreak it with redsn0w, and restore with a custom ipsw, will the baseband change as well?
I want to be able to unlock the phone after jailbreaking and am hoping I can despite having downloaded 5.12.01.

Once you are jailbroken again, you have about a 1% chance that fuzzyband downgrader will work on your 3G to downgrade the baseband.

If you bought your 3G phone new after about September 2008 then you have no chance at all.

Ok, thanks again. In case anyone stumbles upon this with a similar problem, apparently there's a new way to downgrade baseband so you can unlock. They're waiting until the next gen comes out to release though.

Please don't link to quickpwn, they are not a trusted site and have nothing to do with the real devteam and this is old news anyway (a quick search on the forums would show you that)

Sorry, didn't know that wasn't a trusted site.

It's two week old news. That isn't old news to everyone, but might be to iphone unlock enthusiasts. However, the internet and this website is accessible to non-iphone enthusiasts too, who might find that information useful.
