Pwnage of iPhone 1.1.1 and 1.1.3... help needed..
Hi fellows,
I have tried many times to follow the instructions on iClarified as well as the FAQs to pwn both my iPhones.. but always get stuck with Pwnage Tool 2.0.3.1. I downloaded the Pwnage Tool using Firefox and extract using the Archive Utility under OS X.
When searching for the firmware bundle, it does not find the 2.0.2 restore.ipsw. I created the folder on the desktop like the instruction said, but it would not locate the file. The message "Wrong Firmware Bundle Selected" is displayed after I manually selected the FW.
I also did the restore on iTunes and removing the iPhone while downloading.. do i need to do anything else to make sure my iTunes is in the correct firmware?
Do I need to upgrade both the phones to 1.1.4 before using Pwnage Tool?
Please help and sorry if the problem has been highlighted in another thread.
Thanks,
Eric

Make sure to download the correct Firmware file, there is a link to all official firmware files in the general section.
Make sure aswell to download the firmware file with Firefox.

I have followed the instructions and downloaded the firmware using firefox, still the Pwnage tool gave the same message "Wrong Firmware Bundle Selected".
How do I check if my iTunes is having the correct firmware? I have done the restore download for Firmware 2.0.2 for iTunes, do I need to activate it or something?

When downloaded with Firefox dont extract anything this will screw things up. What is the filename of the fw file ending when downloading it with Firefox on the Mac.
1. if it is iPhone1,1_2.0.2_5C1_Restore.ipsw leave it, dont touch, PwnageTool will find it automatically
2. if it is iPhone1,1_2.0.2_5C1_Restore.ipsw.zip Just ckick once on the filename then delete the last four characters (.zip). The Finder will ask you if you are up to use the different suffix , hit yes.
dont do any unzip of the FW file. It's a bit different on a Mac, I know...

Does this mean that you don't have to update from 1.1.1 to 1.1.4 before using PwnageTool to get to firmware 2.0.2?

I have re-downloaded all the files, PwnageTool_2.0.3.1.tbz and iPhone1,1_2.0.2_5C1_Restore.ipsw but the PwnageTool still cannot find the FW.
I am so... arghhhh....

Have you been downloading the firmware from iTunes or from a link you found somewhere online? The reason I ask is because I had the same problem when I tried to upgrade to 1.1.4 a while back. I find it's more reliable to hit "Download Only" in iTunes when you get the message, even though some of the firmware links floating around are from Apple's servers.
Might be worth a try, worked for me.

Finally managed to get PwnageTool to work!!
When I connect my iPhone onto the Mac, the iTunes only showed the options to Update or Restore. I decided to just try the update and see what happens. It prompted me to download a few other updates, including iTunes 8. I took the updates and installed everything..
When I re-run the PwnageTool, it still cannot find the FW on the Pwnage folder on the desktop so I browse and used the copy in ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates and it works!! I placed the custom_restore file in the same place when i did the restore.
Initially iTunes showed error 1600, then i followed the advice in the other thread for error 1600: disconnect ur iPhone, turn it off, hold the HOME button while connecting the cable, iPhone will start together with iTunes, and it will be in restore mode. Press "alt/option" on the keyboard while selecting Restore and choose the custom_restore FW in the above mentioned folder.
That will work just damn fine!!!
hope this update will help the rest. Many thanks to everyone who helped!!
