Default [Pwnage 2.1] cant get rid of 1600 error

okay guys so i thought it would be okay to upgrade my previously pwnd 2.0.2 iphone to 2.1. here is a little info on my hardware first. i am on a macbookpro running OS 10.5. i am using itunes 8 and pwnage tool 2.1. here my problem. i did a regular restore of firmware 2.1 through itunes. then i made my custom 2.1 fw though the pwnage tool. i made two just in case, one with 500mb partition and one with 700 mb partition. then after they were made i put iphone in dfu mode and itunes prompted me to restore my phone. i went ahead and choose the 700mb version. it checked the firmware for like 10 secs and then afterwards i got a message error 1600. so i tried again with dfu mode with the 500mb parition. same problem. i restarted my macbook and tried again, no luck. tried different usb port, no luck. i then even tried restoring to the regular version 2.0.2 firmware, which worked. but then after downgrading i tried to restore on custom 2.02 and no luck. then on custom 2.1 and no luck. i dont know what to do any more. it seems any custom fw i try to restore the phone with, itunes gives me the 1600 error. please help!! =[

i am having the same problem. i downloaded to itunes version 8 and tried to unlock my sisters iphone.

I entered DFU mode via Pwnage
Itunes alerted me the phone needed to be restored
I pressed alt & restore... then chose the correct ipsw
Itunes then prepared the phone for restoration
    Extracted the software
BUT... the following error (screenshot 3) popped up and cancelled the restoration of the phone.

Any advice would be great!... maybe i should convert back to itunes 7.7?

Here is a solution i have been using.

Restore your phone to factory 2.1
Use quickpwn to activate and jailbreak
update cydia and install boot neuter
open bootneuter and let it detect your settings
select neuter and unlock... make sure to also disable autolock from your general settings. bootneuter may require that you restore prior to flashing the unlock

the end result will be an unlocked and jailbroken iphone on 2.1 firmware. This has worked 5 times out of the 5 attempts ive made.

lol how funny i just tried that 30 mins before you posted that methond with quickpwn. i downloaded quickpwn, restored my iphone to 2.1 apple firmware. then ran quickpwn and it jailbroke and activated my phone. i did not do the bootneuter step as my phone was already pwned and my phone was still unlocked through out this whole process, i just was not activated. but thanks again for the help.

here what i did to fix my phone again:
    restore to 2.1 apple firmware
    ran quickpwn 1.1 for mac
smooth running from there on =]

Just don't go into DFU mode before you do the restore. That worked for me.

    Lightbulb Growl helped

And a real good app to install to help your unlocking/jailbreaking is:

    Growl

Growl notifies you when you connect your iphone to your mac, and whether your iphone enters into recovery or DFU mode.

I had the same 1600 error, but all I did to solve it was reset the phone by holding down power & home, go into recovery mode, then option-restoring from iTunes to the new firmware. Growl helped each time as it showed me when I could safely release the buttons.
