    Thumbs up

I'm really excited about this. Does anyone on the team have a 3G iPhone and the ability to test whether or not 2.5G pwning/jailbreaking methods work (i.e. ZiPhone)?

Cheering for you guys! If you can, release PwnageTool on Tuesday so that it syncs up with whatever silly thing Apple takes down the Store for

Thanks for all your hard work. Can't wait to try it out with my 2.5G iPhone ASAP! I won't be upgrading anytime soon; EDGE is more than fast enough for me and this guy is working on a GPS solution: http://iphone-gps.blogspot.com/

The iphone-dev blog is not accepting new posts, and reading the rivers of venom poured into it, I can see why. Let's just breathe for a moment, and ask ourselves why it might be that PwnageTool 2.0 isn't released yet.

iphonedev said: "Please stop worrying, there is a GOOD reason why the software isn't being rushed out of the door, just think about it"

Let's let our tempers settle and do what they suggest. Let's think for a moment about the facts. Let's just assume for the moment that the following are true:

    1) They have produced a working tool that jailbreaks and unlocks firmware version 2.0 for both the iPhone 2G & iPhone 3G. Amazingly, they somehow managed to do this well ahead of the launch of the 3G.
    2) Despite the existence of this tool, they are not releasing it the instant the iPhone 3G is launched, but are waiting a decent interval.
    3) They seem not to be able to talk in open forum about the reason for this delay. Instead they drop hints, and tell us to "think about it" and work it out for ourselves.

Well, I've thought about it, and I think I've figured it out, and if you think about it, you might just be able to do the same. (If need be, read points 1 to 3 again as many times as necessary.) If I'm right, then it'll come soon enough, and the wait will be helpful, not harmful.

By the way, did you see that there are estimates of at least 1 million unlocked 2G iPhones in China alone? How many do you think that makes worldwide? 1.5 million? 2 million? My word, imagine if they could all access the App Store.

So maybe relax and trust these guys. Just maybe they have our best interests at heart.

It's funny, because some of this ire the dev team brings on themselves.

"Oh, look at what we got to work! ... no, you can't do the same thing! Try again next week. In the meantime, lemme show you more videos of how cool it is that we got it to work!"

Kind of... oh, I dunno, RUDE of them, from certain perspectives, and anyone could tell you that dangling a steak in the face of a starving dog is going to get your hand bit if you don't let the dog have it. I don't totally agree with what they're doing, so I can see how some people are kind of pissed that they're not releasing it. Personally, I've already anxiously waited about a month or so for the App Store to pop up, waiting a little longer won't kill me.

This is most likely a reason for the delay http://russianiphone.ru/blog/2008/07...short-facts-1/

no installer=no point in jailbreaking yet.

So your saying theres no point of having an unlocked 1st gen iphone with 2.0 software with the app store?

Jailbreaking isnt its only trick as far as I understand.

    You post news, people whine.

Just keep one thing in mind, if reverse engineering came with ETA, it'd be called engineering

what most of you fail to see is the photos of 2.0 pwned are of the older beta firmwares and could be restored to the phone using older iTunes versions.

The obvious delay is because the new pwnage needs to work with the new iTunes 7.7 and the latest non beta firmware which can only be restored with 7.7.

Thus it could be a while untill 7.7 and the new firmware are cracked and a new pwnage can be released. So far no one has produced images of the latest firmware pwned, and unlocked just some images of the beta firmware with installer and the app store. If the new pwnage was ready I'm sure it would have been released so the dev team could concentrate on the new 3g stuff.

Good luck all I'm sure new unlocking is not far away.

exactly I remember the old days when the BL4.6 came out

anyway...why everybody is in a hurry? I remember that we all waited much more for the 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 to be fully unlocked...

Yeah, but this time they have a working software to unlock/jailbreak/activate, maybe is not 100% complete yet... but is a little annoying to play with us like they're doing, posting videos with no real info. They could tell us why the pwnagetool 2.0 is not public yet.

I mean, I prefered the way of geohot of doing all this.
He just posted when he finished the work and he was ready to share it with all the world.
