I sent this PM to teamare2006, and either this or your suggestion worked for himHe reports that now he's got wifi back.
If it was a re-run of BootNeuter that fixed it, the issue comes down to when people turn off iPhone during an unexpectedly long BootNeuter run. In some cases BootNeuter's call to bbupdater results in a *very* long bbupdater run, and sometimes people turn off their iPhone at *just* the wrong time. Thankfully this kind of grey wifi (in contrast to grey wifi due to disintegrating ramdisk) is fixable just with another bbupdater run via BootNeuter.

Do you see a BootNeuter icon on your main screens? If not, could you please create a custom ipsw in "advanced" mode, and in the "BootNeuter" settings un-check the "Auto-delete" option. In the "General" settings, make sure the "Enable baseband update" option is un-checked. Do a normal recovery mode restore to the resulting ipsw.
When you restore to that new ipsw, you should see BootNeuter on your main screen.
First, please go to your Settings and set auto-lock to "never".
Then go launch BootNeuter and toggle the "Unlock" switch to the opposite of what it's at. Allow BootNeuter to flash that result (it will probably ask you to reboot first, then run it again).
Once you've succesfully flashed that setting, go ahead and toggle the button back to what it was. Flash that result.
After these 2 flashes, you will probably see your wifi again.
my wifi icon has disappeared altogether ! it was working but has suddenly stopped.
in network settings it sees and connects to the router, although no data is moving.
The phone is a 1st gen, last firmware was 1.1.4 (Ziphoned). Pwned & jailbroken with pwnage 2.0, then -
To (try to) fix I re-pwnd using 2.01. After that didnt work I googled and found this thread. Did exactly what is stated above, still no wifi icon (its not greyed-out - its missing).
Ive also reset network settings a few times. One thing I havent tried is restoring without using my backup (Id only do that if someone knows that would fix it).
hello MuscleNerd,
i've tried this,
"Then go launch BootNeuter and toggle the "Unlock" switch to the opposite of what it's at. Allow BootNeuter to flash that result (it will probably ask you to reboot first, then run it again)."
but i'am getting "The baseband flash failed (error 21)" one the first try to switch the "unlock" it to the opposite of what it's at.
any idea how can i overcome this?
My wifi is not greyed...as some have reported. I'm getting signal on my home network. I sign on..it connects...then it just spins and spins and times out. Never connects.
I can make a call. Text. Everything else.
Here's what I've done to the phone:
1G phone. Got it from a friend who had it on AT&T. He had done the official upgrade to FW 2.0. So I downgraded to 1.1.4 with iTUnes 7.5.
Then upgraded with Pwnage 2.01 to FW 2.0 thru my custom ispw.
I've re-run pwnage 3 times. Every time I've run Pwnage, it never asks me for the BL files.
It has successfully bootneutered...and on the last restore (made a new ispw just in case) when it got to bootneuter, it said, "you already have the right version" or something like that.
Again...everything works...but the wifi.
I'm on tmobile (no internet or tzones plan)
FW 2.0 (5A347)
It has a wi-fi and bluetooth address 00:1E...and so on
Modem Firmware: 04.05.04_G
Now I had one person mention that my baseband is wrong. That it shouldn't be 040504. But I've found several posts that say that's what the baseband is with FW 2.0
Is this my problem??? Is my baseband wrong?
What is baseband 04.05.05?
If so...how should I get it out of 040504? Do I need to step back down to 1.1.4 again and back up? or ??
Do I revirginize it?
what does "reset" do in the phone? (general settings)
Which baseband is right for my situation? I'm guessing this is what's hindering my wifi?
Thanks in advance.
I'm having the same problem. I am not new to all this. Have been restoring and downgrading and everything. And now searching the web for hours without a solution is pretty bad.
2.0.1 works great, but the wifi scanner keeps scanning forever and doesn't find any wifi networks although there are many.
I got wifi only one more time to work when I was downgrading to 1.1.4 and using iliberty+ afterwards.
Maybe someone has an idea...maybe it's the bootneuter like in the posting before?
thx
Hello hackintochers. I updated my iphone 1.1.3 to 2.0 Pwned & jailbroken with pwnage 2.0.1 and everything seemed normal until i realized i had no wifi and unavailable bluetooth. This was working fine, so i guess it had something to do with the update. i tried restoring the iphone with the new pwnage 2.0.2 with software 2.0 but it stayed the same. i then did a custom ispw to see if it would help to use the bootloader advice, (flashing the baseband twice) but had no success in re establishing the wifi/bluetooth. I also tried reseting network settings. I found a wifi fix (swifi) using google but i gotta have the terminal on my iphone and i don't and i don't have data plan since i'm using pay as you go. I upgraded to 2.0.1 pwned without getting the wifi/bluetooth back. If i downgrade to 1.1.4 will it fix my problem or how can i fix this? i want my wifi for data please!
Thanks
Update: I tried playing around bootneuter by using fakeblank it didn't fix the issue, if I flash bootloader to 4.6 will it fix this? or what will it do?update - it did nothing.
I've read that I could have a corrupt baseband, how do I uncorrupt it?
I'm adding a couple of more details hoping they would help u guys help me.
I'm using OSX 10.5.4 on a PowerBook.
The 1.1.3 was jailbreaked and unlocked with installer and any sim previous to the 2.0 update.
It's a 8GB iPhone
The Phone and edge work (although i don't have a data plan i can see the E next to the carrier) but Wifi is grey ( i can't select it) and says No WiFi, same goes for the bluetooth but it says it's unavailable
In Settings/General/About says Wi-Fi address N/A ,Bluetooth 00:00:00:00:00:00 IMEI does have numbers, iccid also has numbers and modem firmware is 04.05.04_G
I'm currently on the movistar network in Mexico.
I've noticed that signal is weak or i get no service, that didn't happen before either.
If I restore to apple's 2.0.1 and then restore to the pwned 2.0.1 will that help? update - didn't work
I really want my wifi/ full iphone capabilities back, help please?

Same here. 2G iPhone (recently replaced under warranty < 2wks old) upgraded to 2.0.1 (from 1.1.4 stock) Pwnage 2.02. Everything works, WIFI very unstable.
I noticed that WIFI is SOLID only when you're in an active call. Try calling your voicemail # (not visual voicemail), and it'll connect to WIFI (and maintain the connections) without any issues... Sounds like we may need an update to BootNeuter...
