[Problem] [Solved] Restore fail. Error 1 & 5
Hi.
Yesterday, I had some problems with my iPhone, such as:
* Backup failure ("failed to backup because the iPhone disconnected")
* Black screen when finished call (just top bar showing up)
* Return to SMS list by contact button missing sometimes, in SMS app
... So I decided to restore.
Pressed cmd+restore, and selected the custom firmware that was previously installed.
It started extracting it, but when the restore was supposed to start, i received an unknown error (5).
The iPhone is now stuck at the steve jobs screen, aka recovery mode, and I can't take it from there. Neither hard reset nor DFU worked. The restore always fails when the extracting is done.
What I've tried already:
*Recovery Mode, iTunes 8, official firmware 2.1, resulted in error 5
*Recovery Mode, iTunes 8, pwned firmware 2.1 , resulted in error 5
*DFU Mode, iTunes 8, pwned firmware 2.1 , resulted in error 1
*DFU mode, iTunes 7.7, official firmware 2.1, resulted in error 1
*DFU mode, iTunes 7.7, pwned firmware 2.1, resulted in error 1
I've got:
iPhone v1
Mac OS X 10.5
What should I do now? I'm kinda stressed with this.
Thank you all

Wow, seems like it didn't gave the error if I download the firmware directly from iTunes :O
It is restoring, lets see if it suceeds.

Probably because of this: Error updating iPhone (Error 1 or 5)

Hello.
I have the same problem (error number 5) but the solution you've presented didn't work for me....have you any other ideas?
I downloaded these two firmwares: iPhone1,1_2.1_5F136_Restore AND iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore but both did not work. I have a 1.1.2/1.1.4 Iphone 2g.
Thanks for help.
I fortunatly managed to restore the iphone with ziphone...
