Default [Problem] [Solved] iTunes does not recognize iPhone anymore

    EDIT: yay...my iphone is back

    - I have a 2G and I recently upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2, installed a few apps from Cydia and everything works fine.

Until last night when I plug in the USB cable to my Macbook, not only the iPhone does not show is being charged, iTunes does not even see the phone.

    1. the USB ports are fine because they see my USB flash drive and other USB devices.
    2. the USB cable for the iPhone is fine because I plug it to the wall socket and it charges the iPhone

I thought maybe I can restore the iPhone using the Pwnage 2.2 custome.ispw file and start all over again, but if iTunes does not even see the phone, how do I go about doing this??

On the other note, I plug in my iTouch to my MacBook, it charges the iTouch and iTunes also sees it.

So how do I restore the phone if I can't get iTunes to see the iPhone? help!!!

    Try this:

    Turn of your iPhone.

While pressing down the "home" button, connect the USB cord and see if iTunes recognizes that an iPod/iPhone needs to be restored. Make sure you hold down the "home" button the whole time until you see the iTunes prompt.

    Then restore.

    hey spook75,

you are a genius. i press and hold the HOME button, connect USB and start up iTunes, lord and behold iTunes now sees my phone. I did the alt store and now in the process of restoring back to the iPhone1,1_2.2_5G77_Custom_Restore.ispw

it finished restoring the phone from the custome file, now it's restoring from my yesterday's backup.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! you saved my day
