[Problem] iPhone Stuck in Recovery mode.
Here's my situation... The iphone isn't really mine. It belongs to my uncle, and when he brought it to me the screen showed the USB connector with the arrow and the Itunes Logo. I used the PwnageTool to bring it to 2.0.1 when it first came out. Now, my uncle isn't the brightest of the bunch and he decided to never backup his iphone on his computer, so I have a problem... I can't straight up restore it with the Pwnage Tool like I usuallly do because he has no backup... I tried using Ziphone to bring it back to normal mode but it seems to get stuck at "Searching for iPhone". This is not one of the new 3g phones, its one of the older kind. Is there anything I can try to do without having to restore the phone (since he doesn't want to lose all his information, contacts, etc) to bring it back to normal mode other than Ziphone?
Thanks for the help,
Nition.

Give this one a try:
1. Connect iPhone and your PC/Mac, quit iTunes 8iPhone is showing restore mode).
2. Hold start/sleep and home for 10 seconds (I always count 100, 200, 300,...)
3. Let go of home button but keep holding start/sleep for 5 more seconds, let go then.
The iPhone should reboot then.
One more tipp: Delete ZiPhone ;-) If your iPhone would be at firmware <=1.1.4, iLiberty could kick it out of recovery, wont work on fw >= 2

Done. Still stuck. After rebooting the phone, it goes back straight to the Connector/iTunes Logo. I have a Mac btw. Any other ideas you think might work? Oh, and thanks for the quick response btw.

Hmm. Should work normally but seems to be really stuck. You can give this one a try. Go from simple restore/recovery to DFU and reboot then. At worst you are stuck again at simple recovery but could work.
1. Connect the iPhone and your Mac/PC
2. Shut down iTunes
3. Hold Power/Sleep until the red slider shows up, slide to shut the iPhone down. If this aint work hold Power/Sleep and Home until the iPhone shuts down.
3. Hold Start/Sleep and Home for 10 seconds (I count like 100, 200, 300, ..)
4. Let go of Start/Sleep but keep holding Home until...
5. ... iTunes starts up and finds an iPhone in restore/recovery mode. The iPhone screen is black.
6. Disconnect Mac and iPhone.
7 On the iPhone hold Start/Sleep and Home until the Apple logo shows up. This may take up to 30-60 seconds. Once the Apple logo shows up, let go of start/sleep and Home - keep your fingers crossed that the iPhone will boot.

K, so I gave up and decided to do a restore using the pwnage tool... I tried using a custom restore ispw i had already and got an error 6 while trying to restore. After I tried creating a new restore file but the phone wont go into DFU mode. It has no red turn off slider, so I turn it off with the button on top. I try to get it into dfu mode with the sleep and home button thing for ten seconds but it doesn't go into DFU. Any ideas what might be going wrong?
Thanks,
Nition.

Try a regular restore to Apple Firmware 2.1 in iTunes, then use Quickpwn and you should be set.

I'm having the exact same issue (but I used quickpwn). Stuck in the connect to itunes screen. Tried what volkspost mentioned but it didn't work. Any other ideas to get out of restore mode without deleting my data?

Hi Twisty,
I am afraid you'd have to restore. If it would be a "normal" restore mode, you'd be able to jump out of it. Your iPhone seems really to be stuck in.

should volkspost method fail theres an alternative to use a 1.1.4 method then updating to 2.1 from there be sure you have the right firmware to your device or you will have to refer to another sticky thread other than that have patience during jailbreaking process
