Works fine for visual format(####-####) and ID when dial or received a call.

The problem with SMS ID in CR started with FW2.0, before it works fine. If you duplicate the phone number for some of your contacts and add +506, the SMS will reconize the contact name.

Check the 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th lines... these ones are for Brazil. I just edited it and it turned out that it works. About the n, for Brazil is 724 (check the plist which has country codes). Please, let's keep the findings altogether on this or other topic that moderators may create.

All done on Terminal.app (Mac) and if it is of any value I highly suggest vim ;)

He's using "vim" a Terminal (Mac) text editor.

What is it, exactly?

Well it worked for me also...there's something I'm not getting, how was this possible? What did the developer do? Shouldn't he had modded this new binary format file we are talking about?What do you guys mean by "number formatting"? Is it for example "XXXX-XXXX" so it gives the number a format divided by two parts? Sorry about the dumb questions, just got my iphone and I'm trying to absorb this whole thing so I could maybe do something for the community. I'm currently studying computer engineering and want to develop for mobile phones and maybe get started on the iphone. Thank you all.

I'm thinking we're trying to figure out how to mod some file in order to get back control on how phone numbers are displayed on the phone (i.e. Contacts, Keypad, etc...) AKA "Number Masking". This is where the now called "UIDefaultFormats.phoneformat" takes part (I think).

You seem to fixing something related to "phone number matching" AKA "Caller ID", which have presented problems (specially in SMS) in unsupported Countries.

Someone please explain to me what we're doing. I want the "masking" back! This means that my phone numbers will display properly all across the phones OS, like so:

Correct: +58 (212) 123-4567 (this is what I want)
Correct: 0 (212) 123-4567 (this is what I want)

Incorrect: +58 2121234567 (this is what I currently have)
Incorrect: 02121234567 (this is what I currently have)

So when I start typing numbers in the phones keypad, the masking "+58 (###) ###-####" is displayed correctly.

DID YOU GUYS SUCCEEDED AT THIS BY INSTALLING THE CALLER ID FIX?!?!?!

Well, at first it seemed to fix the SMS issue where the phone does not recognize the name of the contact sending the message because of the country/area code, it would just display the number with the area code appended to the end. Further inspection revealed that even when I first sent a sms to a contact not including the country/area code would open another "conversation" on the phone, not the same I originally started.

And no formatting at all...numbers for Costa Rica are still 12345789 or +506 12345678
