No SIM card installed error..but another iPhone SIM works?

Hi all,
A problem arose yesterday that I have never run into before when I jailbroke a friend's 2G iPhone. Said iPhone's original firmware before Pwnage was 2.2.1. I used the PwnageTool 2.2.5 to unlock and jailbreak using default settings on everything but the logos. Process goes smoothly as usual. After everything finishes, I pop in my SIM from my iPhone that is still in jail - works fine. I pop in friend's card and get the "No SIM card installed" error. The strange thing is that my SIM works, but friend's doesn't. A possibility that I have is that the SIM is damaged, as it does have some pretty serious indentations on the contact areas. Also, the "Import SIM contacts" setting does not exist when the SIM is in the tray, although I know there are SIM contacts present. Anyone have any ideas?

The same thing... Before two weeks iphone 2g displayed NO SIM CARD INSTALLED after one year of normal usage. I try everything and it cant be fixed. hardware problem on logic board... the costs of repairing is too big.

My phone suddenly started to show a "no sim" and "invalid sim" error. Tried everything.

Then I bought another 2g phone from a friend and after I unlocked it with redsnow, same problem. The sim works on a regular cell phone, but not in either iPhone 2g.

Something is screwy with iPhone software.

Same happen to me, I wonder if that is AT&T doing something to the unlocked phones.

Same experience, for 2 -3 days, I removed the sim, cleaned the contacts and has not happened again since...

This is the weirdest thing ever, seems that a lot of people had their iphones SIM cards dirty at the same time, go figure.
Anyway after cleaning mine started working too.

I have my friend's son who has a 2G , it broke the glass and someone took it to China and paid 100$ to have the whole thing replaced, before that it was OK , the local line here was woring in it.

It came back and saw the 3.0 and also I upgraded to 3.1 , jailbreak with Custome Firmware made by Pwnage 3.1 and now this is what the new behaviour is...

I put local SIM cards of my own country here , Tanzania and the phone says NO SIM

I have tried the following SIM cards and the phone works OK ... they are

Dubai DU Network SIM

France Orange SIM

UK O2 Sim


Now what makes these cards work and mine , the native of Tanzania , ZAIN , Vodacom , Tigo and Zantel to refuse to work ?

After jailbreaking sometimes these types of problem arises. Sometimes restring the phone the problem can be solved. Sometimes it occurs for doing jailbreak in a wrong way. I prefer for making a try by rejailbreaking.
