"iPhone could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible"

Hi Everyone,,,hopefully someone can help me as my 3GS iPhone is unsuable...

First of all I managed to get locked out of it...dont ask me how...so I need to restore, but I would like to be able to JB it again....currently it is jb-ed and on 3.0(7a341), bb 04.26.08 and 06.04 bootloader. I wanna go to 3.1.2

1. using pwnage I created a custom ipsw
2. on iTunes 9, on my pc, I connected via DFU method and my phone comes up ok
3. holding down SHIFT and clicking restore works but it barks at me that "iPhone could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible
4. i tried under iTunes 8.1 also - no luck either

anyone?

How do you mean locked out? Did you accidentally upgrade? Set a pin code?

I suspect you have a custom ipsw for the wrong iPhone model.

I selected 3gs on pwnage...and it is locked out and I don't know the pin...but the itunes sees it ok...it's just that I cannot upgrade/restore using a custom ipsw....I am sure 3.1.3 would be ok...maybe my source ipsw was "Bad"...i got it from here...

You should get the IPSW directly from Apple. Any non-apple download link is not welcome on this forum as that is warez. Pwnagetool checks that the IPSW is valid though.
