ok so i have a iphone 3g that i want jailbroken and unlocked....it has firmware 4.2.1 and baseband 5.15.04, so i get told from some people it cant be jail broken and some tell me it can be but offer no solutions to help me. it is an at&t phone on h20 service right now and my internet wont work or send or recieve pics. if anyone can help me or tell me what tool/program i need to jailbreak it please please please help me out im paying for phone service im not using and its not cool
1) You can jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 with redsn0w 0.9.7b1
2) Your baseband (05.15.04) CANNOT be soft unlocked now. The ONLY solution is to use PwnageTool or redsn0w to upgrade your device to the iPad's 06.15.00 baseband, HOWEVER:
a) This will likely break your GPS.
b) This can never be undone.
c) This will make restoring your device in the future very difficult. You will have to restore using a very specific set of instructions and custom firmwares.
d) This will indicate to Apple immediately if they ever look at your device that it has been jailbroken and is not under warranty.
e) THIS CAN NEVER BE UNDONE.
f) You can never again restore to a FACTORY IPSW.
g) You will be unable to upgrade your baseband or downgrade your baseband in the future.
I cannot stress enough that this is an absolute LAST DITCH method for unlocking your device. I don't recommend it, I recommend strongly against it as a matter of fact. BUT, it's a way you could unlock your phone and use it, so.
thanks nickname... i dont want to unlock the phone persay just jailbreak it so i can use my mms i got my internet figured out just had to download configuration settings for it but the h20 company says that i cant download config. setting for my mms so if anyone has any ideas or if the above mentioned way is the only thing i can do please tell me...oh yea the phone was jailbroken once before but it was a tethered jb with greenp0isi0n should i just use greenpoisi0n to do a tethered jb?

well i sent an email hope to hear back from you this is all so confusing to me hash files blob files exploits i dont understand this stuff i only work on cars and guns and i just wanna send and receive pics so im begging someone to PLEASE walk me through the steps i really dont want to lose my gps by installing the ipad baseband i heard if i create a different ipsw i can jailbreak it but nobody will tell me howQuote:

If you absolutely have to unlock, your only option at this point is to install the 06.15.00 baseband, but all of the caveats I mention above apply. Instructions and downloads here: Dev-Team Blog - Ultra-recycle
You can jailbreak the device directly if you do not care about unlocking, download redsn0w 0.9.7b1 (google to find the link) and follow the instructions to complete an untethered jailbreak of your device.
If the instructions there aren't step by step enough, check out iClarified -- it has many step by step tutorials and guides for upgrading / jailbreaking / unlocking / etc.

100% correct. Unlocking and jailbreaking are separate processes and you can jailbreak without unlocking -- you should have no problem jailbreaking the device as it currently sits.
everywhere says this version is only for beta testers and there are problems with it so is there somewhere to find the full version or is there one? am i just gonna be stuck with my phone having issues just to have my picture messaging?
oh and can someone help me figure out what these statements mean?

i dont know what hashes or blobs are or how to make them or find them or i dont know what a stock FW is im so confused bout this stuff
