I have taken all steps specified by the Dev Team, but when the IPhone is restored, Cydia is no longer there. Does this mean that the phone is now locked, or how do I determine if it is still jailbroken and unlocked?
Thanks

Has your modem firmware been updated to higher than 04.26.28? If so, you have restored an unpwned ipsw. Otherwise you should be okay.
My modem firmware now says 05.11.07.
I believe that there were 2 IPSWs on the desktop when I did this--the original one and the "custom" one that Pwnage uses. I think that the Mac probably grabbed the uncustomized IPSW and installed it. In retrospect, I should have trashed the original before proceeding.
Am I totally out of luck with a phone that cannot be unlocked?
You are screwed until a 3.1 OTB jailbreak comes along (which seems to be very soon), then you had better be happy with a glorified iPod touch for a long time as there is still no unlock on the horizon.
There is no way that iTunes will have automatically picked the wrong IPSW, it is most likely the original IPSW was sorted first in the list.
I always put the original IPSW in the trash (but don't delete it) when I do this to avoid mistakes.
This should be a lesson for everyone attempting to prematurely upgrade--please take note and learn from my stupid mistake!
Can you still SSH into your phone? Do you still have your hacked apps on there? Do they still work if so? If not the easiest way I can tell you to make it work is to downgrade to 3.0.1 and then redsn0w it and then just download the custom firmware for your phone and then upgrade that way. It worked for me on my 3G. Hope this helped.
Also there is away to downgrade the modem firmware too after it is jailbroken but you have to be on wifi if you are not on AT&T. Just connect to Cydia and then download the file and reboot. If you search youtube for "Downgrade Iphone 3g baseband 5.11.07 to 04.26.08 on 3.1 Firmware" this should help if you are on AT&T you dont need to do that it will work.
*Sorry I noticed you are on a 2g this will mostlikely not help you. Sorry again but if you are on AT&T you will not need to worry about the Modem Firmware.*
I have a 3GS--is this still applicable?
No, the baseband downgrader only works on the first few weeks of 3G iPhones manufactured. Apple fixed that hole pretty quickly. There is no solution for your situation right now.Quote:
