Custom Carrier Bundle for iPhone Firmware 2.2.1 & PwnageTool/Quickpwn 2.2.5 (Mac&Win)
The PHP-driven service auto-creates custom carrier bundles for use with PwnageTool 2.2.5 and Quickpwn 2.2.5 (Mac & Windows). It only works with Firmware 2.2.1 on iPhone 2G & 3G.

[EDIT 2009-05-14] I have created a new service that auto-creates complete custom carrier bundles in ipcc format. Much easier to apply - "the Apple way". No more need for integrating the carrier bundles into custom firmware or use Terminal/PuTTY. Works for iPhone 2G/3G, jailed/jailbroken, Windows/Mac. Intended for users on a non-Apple partner carrier. Check it out
here.[END EDIT]
Bundle for Pwnage Tool 2.2.5 (Mac)
The Pwnage bundle contains your custom carrier bundle that is aswell auto-created by the webform/script. Also included is a custom script that creates the symlink for the carrier bundle on the first boot of you iPhone after applying the custom firmware file made by PwnageTool 2.2.5.
I use a combination of a Launch Daemon and a shell script to archive this. Launch Deamon and script are auto-deleted after first boot of the iPhone and creating the carrier bundle plus symlink.
You do not have to do any fiddeling with plist files or create carrier logos. Even though if you want, you can open the bundle, navigate all the way to the carrier bundle and edit the two logos (png) inside before applying the pwn-bundle or later.
The script creates everything on the server, after all is complete, it's downloaded to your Mac. Unzip the archive first to unpack the bundle. On a Mac ctrl click on PwnageTool select "Show package content" and navigate to /Contents/Reesouces/CustomPackages. Drop the bundle in there. Restart PwnageTool if it was running. You ahve to create the custom ipsw-file in "expert" mode and select the custom carrier bundle in "Custom packages".
The download button below named "Download my pwn carrier bundle (zip-archive)" will download the PwnageTool 2.2.5 comaptible bundle as described here.
Sometimes you have to reboot the iPhone once again to make the custom carrier bundle active working.
Bundle for manual Installation (Mac&Windows)
If you hit the button "Download my standard carrier bundle (zip-archive)" you will get the same custom carrier bundle but for manual installtion via SFTP and SSH on the iPhone. This is intended for users with already running Firmware 2.2.1 (jailbroken) on their iPhones not wanting to restore againg to custom firmware but just add the custom bundle. The bundle comes with a custom readme for Installation.
You need to have OpenSSH installed from Cydia to use SFTP.
You can of cause enter all the values and then hit both buttons, so you will have both bundles - just in case.
The downloaded files for use with PwnageTool 2.2.5 end *_pwn.zip the one's for manual installation end *_custom.zip.
The expanded zip files for use with PwnageTool 2.2.5 end *_pwn.bundle the one's for manual installation end *_custom.bundle
Short explanation: Why custom carrier bundle
Apple wanted the iPhone to be tied to a few partner carriers. For each of those carriers/simcards/conrtacts Apple developed Carrier Bundles containing special data like apn for EDGE, carrier IDs (MCC/MNC), access to services etc. One bundle called "unknown" is made to handle roaming situations.
Cause our hacked iPhones dont match the Apple-made carrier bundles the unknown one gets used. It's not a too good idea to edit this one, it's there for roaming situations. Some users edited it to avoid displaying messages like "call forwarded" and so on, some edited the APN for data access. The custom carrier bundle you can create does the trick the Apple-way.
The service now supports more than one MCC/MNC assiciated to one carrier bundle. I have added two more (optional) fields for that. If you find out your carrier needs even more, just let me know.
Every user still has to fill out the first field "* Supported SIM (Your MCC/MNC e.g. 20622)" (it's mandatory), the two others are just optional for those needing them. [END EDIT][/quote]

You need to have the MCC/MNC of your carrier handy aswell as the textstring that is issued by your simcard/provider when not using a custom bundle.
You have to find out the MCC/MNC code of your simcard
If you are still at Firmware up to 1.1.4: On the iPhone start the Phone app and switch to the keypad and type
*3001#12345#*
tap the green dial button. That opens the hidden Field Test Application on the iPhone. Tap "Cell Information", some lines will be displayed.
On the end you will find something like
N:3 #:262
or
N:10 #:234
In the first case, the MCC/MNC is 26203 (if N only has one digit add a zero in front), in the second MCC/MNC is 23410.
Write it down!
If you are already at firmware 2.0: Same procedure to start "Field Test", then tap "GSM Cell Enviroment", then "Cell Information", then "Service Cell". Take a note of "Mobile Country Code" (MCC) and "Mobile Network Code" (MNC).
Starting with firmware 2.1 (and above), the MCC/MNC have been moved again, they can be found (after dialing *3001#12345#*) under "MM Info" -> "Serving PLMN" (they are labeled, like on 2.0, "Mobile Country Code" and "Mobile Network Code". Same as above: If MNC has only one digit add a zero in front.
Take a note.
Custom carrier logo
For using the custom carrier logo you need one mandatory field in the form to be filled out properly (* First character/digit of carrier logo name). The file carrier.plist has a "key" called "AllowPrefixMatching" that has to be set to "true". The following string is compared to the string your simcard/carrier issues when normally using (before having the custom carrier logo). Main carriers like Vodafone issue "Vodafone UK" or so. The value for "AllowPrefixMatching" has to match the string and NO SPACE ALLOWED.
Use the easy way and just type the first character (or if so digit) that is displayed, it works.
Write the displayed name down (only the first character/digit).
Just an addon: I have just been in Greece for a while, used Vodafone there. The display shows "gr vf" so the digit/character to fill in would be g
Hope that helps

New version for iPhone Firmware 2.0.1 and PwnageTool 2.0.2
Thanks to the Dev Team we can now use Firmware 2.0.1 on our iPhones with the help of PwnageTool 2.0.2.
Apple still uses the carrier Bundles but changed some values inside the bundles plist-files. Files affected are Info.plist and version.plist.
I have updated the service, the bundles created now work flawless with the new version. Procedure applying them is still the same aswell, see post #1.
