Default Poor Battery Life iOS 4

    Hi Everyone,

After creating a custom IPSW with the latest version of the PwnageTool and successfully jailbreaking and unlocking my early model 3GS with ultrasn0w, the duration of my battery life is about 25% of what it was when I had 3.1.2 (also jailbroken).

I have tried disabled all push notifications (and set them to manual), adjusting the brightness, turning off WiFi and bluetooth...etc.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Did you restore from a backup of your 3.1.2 phone when you configured 4.0? This is a very common side effect from restoring a jailbroken backup of a previous OS to a new OS.

No, I started fresh and did not restore from a backup, specifically to avoid this very issue.

The IPSW I used to make my custom one with PwnageTool was the one from:
    Firmware - The iPhone Wiki

    Specifically:
    http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....3_Restore.ipsw

I found this site on iCommunity (where they previously hosted their own IPSW's) and assume it is trusted as I read that PwnageTool checks the SHA1 hash?

Could this be my problem though? Should I create a new custom IPSW and do another restore?

    Thanks!

Also, could any harm be caused by my having the 04.26.08 baseband, rather than updating to the latest unlockable release?

Is the purpose of such modem firmware updates solely to thwart jailbreaking/unlocking or does it provide any benefit?

    Thanks!

If anyone else is having this same problem, after spending a few more hours searching, I found a solution in an Apple thread:

Settings > Safari > Fraud Warning, was set to "ON".

When I turned it off, my battery consumption went right back to normal. I am fairly certain that this was the cause, as I had already tried rebooting multiple times and this was the only other factor that I changed.

Glad to be able to use my iPhone regularly again :-)

Nice find -- my fiancee was complaining of the same thing, when I got my iPhone 4 I hand-me-down'd my 3GS to her after getting iOS4 on it (after saving all my SHSH's and stuff, of course), and she's had a nightmare with battery life. I'll check this tonight when I get home.

    Thanks for the post!
