Straight after PwnageTool my iPhone screen went black and now wont display anything, ive tried getting it into recovery mode but neither of my computers detect my iphone as being connected. Any ideas on how to fix this

see if any tools like iplus , iliberty or ziphone see it also did you make sure it was iPhone firmware and not itouch. Also I am fixing your title as you type....

none of those applications can see it

the iphone restore file i downloaded was
iPod1,1_1.1.4_4A102_Restore.ipsw

Hmm well what was the last thing that you did before it went black, also you could try diffrent cables or turning it off and plugging it in while its off to have the computuer power it up

go on IRC and see if you can catch some of the dev team's attention, im sure they would be interested. you seem like the only person with this problem so far, they would like to investigate. musclenerd might get you to do some things to see if he can diagnose something.

You say you tried getting it into recovery mode. Is that recovery or DFU? DFU mode should work. if your iBoot is screwed, DFU should still work. DFU uses a different bootloader to iBoot meaning if iBoot is fucked, DFU should work. To enter DFU mode, connect iphone to your computer's USB port, open up iTunes, hold down Power + Home button for around 10 or so seconds, until the screen goes black. after the 10 seconds, release the power button and keep holding down the home button until iTunes sees iphone. NOTE: THE SCREEN OF IPHONE WILL NOT DISPLAY ANYTHING. IT MAY TAKE TIME TO ENTER DFU MODE, KEEP GOING FOR LIKE A MINUTE OR TWO AND IF IT DOESNT WORK, TRY AGAIN. Then click restore with iTunes and it should work.

tried using my old ipod video cable
i cant tell if its off or not as screen is unresponsive and theirs no sounds

Isn't that the problem, the FW is for ipod?

I had this with my Iphone also. I used Ziphone to put the Iphone to DFU mode, as pwanage said it was already but it would only show a black screen even trying to reboot with both power and home buttons!

I used Ziphone as I have said to put the Iphone to DFU then restored to standard 1.1.4 with Itunes then used Pwanage to jailbreak and unlock.

All was then fine.

just unplug it and hold home plus power like your trying dfu, hold it for that amount of time then stop. Then try and turn it on. Also Mr x could you tell if thats iPod firmware , I don't own a touch
