Only have 4.1 SHSH 3G/3GS need to avoid baseband upgrade - what can I do?
Hi there!
I've got a couple of questions that relate to this topic. Don't think there's any need to make a new thread!
Anyways,
I'm kinda new to this so bare with me please.
I've got a jailbroken iphone 3.1.2 (7d11) with blackra1n
modem firmware (05.11.07)
Just found out recently about SHSH, so backed mine up last week, I'm guessing its not that helpful now.
Ok so I've been under the impression that I'm one of pwnagetool dependent people, only to find out that it is a Mac only tool. (I'm a windows user and don't really know anyone with Mac).
So my question is what are the solutions for me. Will there be any pwnagetool for Windows in the near future? (guessing no). Any similar tools for windows available that will preserve my baseband and firmware? Do i need to wait for a redsn0w solution?
Any of these questions answered would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Didn't look like your response had very little to do with the thread you had originally replied in. So I moved your post to a new thread.
We refuse to support sn0wbreeze here.
You haven't explained whether you have old or new bootrom. This matters if you want to use iOS 4.0 with pwnagetool or sn0wbreeze (old bootrom only) to go to iOS 4.0 and keep your baseband..
If you have new bootrom, then Pwnagetool 4.1 is your only solution for preserving baseband. It will also work for old bootrom 3GS.
See Bootrom - The iPhone Wiki for a way to determine the bootrom version.
Right now Sn0wbreeze does NOT offer the same capability as pwnagetool for iOS 4.1 - so don't even think about using it with iOS 4.1

Thanks for the reply.
Yes you're right, forgot to mention - I've got the new bootroom. That would mean that I'd have to get hold of a Mac and do the update with Pwnagetool 4.1? There is no other solution?

Considering that pwnagetool 4.1 was only released yesterday - I think you are asking a lot.
There is no other solution if you want to retain baseband.

Olethros,
I now have a hackint0sh so I can run PwnageTool.
I searched around and I think I'm good to use PwnageTool but I just want to confirm with you, master.
So it's a 3GS, old bootrom, BB 05.11.07, FW 3.1.2 now jb with redsn0w and unlocked with blackra1n, SHSH saved from way back.
Am I a good candidate for PwnageTool to upgrade to FW 4.1?

Yes.
To be clear:
You can:
Use PwnageTool 4.1.2 to go to iOS 4.1 and retain ability to unlock with ultrasn0w. Dev-Team Blog - 20102010 event
iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3GS Using PwnageTool (Mac) [4.1]
In case you are confused.
Before you begin connect your iPhone to iTunes and let it sync/backup.
To you this might seem like an "upgrade" or "update" but you MUST use "restore" in iTunes, this is clearly described in the iClarified guide I link to.
Once the restore is finished you will get the choice between setting the iPhone up as new or restoring from iTunes backup. First try "restore from iTunes backup" if you find you experience poor battery life, stability problems or wifi connection issues, do a reset network settings. If that doesn't help run pwnagetool process again and instead pick "set up iPhone as new".
Finally, blackra1n is NOT an unlock... blackra1n is a jailbreak that installs a launcher on your iPhone (also called blackra1n). The blackra1n.app launcher allows you to install Cydia and also install an unlock. This unlock is called blacksn0w.

Thanks Olethros,
Your suggestions worked wonders!
I created my custom IPSW, used iTunes to restore and used the previous backup.
I used ultrasn0w to unlock and it's all great so far.
I appreciate you being there for us newbies!
