New to Jailbreak - Tethered - Battery Died - Stuck!
Please help! I just bought a phone that was jailbroken & Unlocked.
I did not jailbreak it myself.
Here is what I know. It was jailbroken 3gs running the latest firmware. It was tethered and I was instructed not to allow it to reboot or let the battery die.
Well, the battery died and I woke up with the apple logo on screen
I tried to reboot / restore it and got a 1015 code..
Tried to downgrade to 4.1 and itunes wont let me saying it is not compatible
Downloaded
Tiny Umbrella
BlackRa1n
RedSn0w
None of them helped or got me out of recovery mode..
What do I do? Is there anyway I can just restore it back to factory and re-jailbreak? Any advise would help..

Did you try the "just boot tethered for now" option in redsn0w? you must supply redsn0w with this IPSW: iPhone2,1_4.2.1_8C148a_Restore.ipsw - that can be downloaded from here http://www.hackint0sh.org/f127/22056.htm
The prompts in redsn0w for entering DFU mode aren't entirely correct for your situation. When you are stuck in your current state, there's no way (except letting the battery go flat) of making the phone shut down (and stay shut down). I have explained the timing in another thread, it's basically hold both buttons for max 7 seconds (if the screen comes back on - you have held the buttons too long), then release power/sleep and hold home.
You can put the phone into DFU and then launch redsn0w and run the "just boot tethered for now" option. Redsn0w will detect the phone is already in DFU mode and start tethered booting it straight away.

I am going to try and drain the battery. I can not get into DFU mode or out of recovery mode. It keeps looping back no matter what I try.
I tried to use redsnow's "boot tethered" option and it did not work.
Hopefully the battery drains, I plug it into my pc and restart it that way and get it into DFU mode... If not, $200 down the drain for me...

Try a wall charger (official apple one) - all you need is USB power plus the home and sleep buttons working to put the phone into DFU mode.
DFU mode is a hardware mode, if you can't get into it - you are either doing it wrong or you have a hardware problem.

I managed to get it into DFU Mode. Ran redsnow 0.9.6b2, the boot tethered option automatically started but the phone did not boot. The statusbar stopped at the end and the phone restarted with apple logo and jumped back into recovery mode..
Update:
I got the phone into DFU mode, tried to "boot tethered" with redsn0w and nothing..
Tried DFU again and update via itunes.. Got Error code 1600 once, 21 the next and 1015 each separate attempts.
Blackra1n - didnt work
Redsn0w - didnt work
Tiny Umbrella - wont kick it out of recovery mode
ireb - didnt work
Tiny umbrella says "CYDIA DOES NOT HAVE YOUR SHSH FOR iPhone3GS 4.1 THERE IS NO WAY FOR YOU TO GET THEM. SORRY. YOU ARE JUST TOO LATE."
It looks like I was able to (dont ask me how because I dont know) downgrade to 4.1 I know this because redsnow's corresponding ipsw file is 4.1 i downloaded and used to try to reboot once. 4.2 no longer is recognized

After DFU mode, I run redsnow and it stops at end (actual pic below) and the phone reboots into recovery mode

Try redsn0w again, with a 4.2.1 IPSW and the phone in DFU mode.
Then click "install Cydia" by itself
Then once it reboots - it should be stuck in recovery mode again.
Run redsn0w again, with a 4.2.1 IPSW and put the phone in DFU mode.
Then click "just boot tethered for now" by itself
