Again, after this the Wifi worked again and it did find access points. It even worked this morning after I put the iPhone to sleep overnight. So I was pretty enthusiastic.
But, it seems something more is wrong with the phone... because I just checked the Wifi and the phone just keeps on scanning, but does not find any networks. Again !
It is really really weired... I can try to restore to firmware 2.1 after
virginizing the baseband. But I don't think that will help much...maybe I should wait until a new firmware version comes out?
Also, there are really quite some people who seem to have the same problem (see discussion.apple.com).
Unfortunately, it really seems like there is no fix possible
I'm really thinking about selling the phone, because if even you guys don't have a solution, I'm not sure if there is one at all?
how much are you going to sell? 8gb version?
As suggested by volkspost and dtube I tried a to a fresh restore to fw 2.1 with a virgin baseband.
Here's what I did:
1) Flash baseband with 3.9, neuter = off, FB = off, unlock = off.
-> Wifi did not work
2) put iPhone to DFU and restored to Apple fw 2.1
3) jailbreak + activate with Quickpwn
-> Wifi still did not work
-> this indicates that neutering the boatloader alone does not solve the Wifi problem
-> no Wifi, so I could not install BootNeuter over Cydia
4) I restored the phone to custom fw 2.1 and then run Bootneuter
-> Flash baseband with 3.9, neuter = on, FB = off, unlock = on
-> after reboot, Wifi worked again
-> this indicates that only unlocking the baseband somehow solves the issue... I don't get this. Maybe someone else has an idea?
5) Flash baseband with 3.9, neuter = off, FB = off, unlock = off.
-> Wifi still worked
6) put the iPhone to DFU and restored to Apple fw. 2.1
7) jailbreak + activate with Quickpwn
-> Wifi still worked now and I could install BootNeuter via Cydia
-> now I re-flashed the baseband with 3.9, neuter = on, FB = off, unlock = on.
-> Wifi still works.
So far so good. I will put the phone to sleep overnight and see if the Wifi still works tomorrow. We'll see.
Some random observations:
- as soon as the Wifi stops working (does not find any networks anymore), it seems that I also get a massive battery drain problem. Even if the phone sleeps overnight, it only has half the battery life left.
- the very first time I observed the Wifi problem, I also had problems receiving calls while the phone was sleeping. This seems to be gone now, however (although the Wifi still didn't work and I had this battery drain problem)
I also have a question regarding BossPrefs. I disabled EDGE using BossPrefs... is this a problem maybe?
Also, what do you guys recommend... switching off Wifi using BossPrefs or using the normal Apple-Settings? Is there any difference at all?
Okay, I will see how long the Wifi keeps working and post again as soon as I have news.
if possible I would try now how the iPhone/wifi works without tweaking anything, meaning dont install additional stuff, just check for now.

---------- iPhone 4 factory unlocked, iOS 4.3.1, jailbroken
iPad Wi-Fi + 3G (1G), iOS 4.3.1, jailbroken
again no Wifi
So, again the phone does not find any networks today.
I really don't get this. It's been a fresh install with a virgin baseband... and after unlocking it worked fine (even after a reboot).
But now, after several hours at sleep, it's the very same problem ... and most annoyingly the battery drains really fast (even if the phone sleeps).
AlvinK83 suggested a downgrade to 1.1.4... this is no option, I would loose all my apps.
Maybe I should give it a last shot and upgrade the bootloader to 4.6... is there any harm in upgrading the boatloader, since my phone is 3.9 OOTB?
I'm open for any other suggestions.
I have the exact same problem : wifi is not working. iPhone cannot find access points !! I was on 1.1.4, with everything working, including wifi. I shift-restored to 2.1 (i have a 3.9 BL OOTB), Quickpwn 2.1...
I followed the same procedure as you did, except that i used Edge to install Bootneuter through Cydia, reflash the baseband twice (1st de-neuter and lock, 2nd neuter and unlock) but still no luck: i have no wifi !
Hope someone finds a solution, other than waiting for 2.2 unlock :-)
Has anyone had this problem on a 4.6 bootloader?
I'm having the exact same problem with v2.1 3.9BL.
Tried several restores with different firmwares, bootnueter settings etc but no luck.
Picks up wifi points- connects for about 5-8seconds then drops out...
I have tried 4 different wifi points-all have the same problem...
I've ended up ordering a 3G iPhone-hope that this wifi issue is fixed in the coming few days-otherwise i'll be selling my 1st gen on ebay...
I may have found a solution.
I restored my iphone back to 2.1 via itunes.used quickpwn to unlock, install cydia etc..
then installed bosssprefs over edge network. once this is installed start up bossprefs.
goto "more" and select "fix user dir permissions".
Restart iphone and then select "reset network settings" in Settings>General>Reset>.
Restart the phone once again and conenct to wifi.
I did the above and the wifi has been holding on for the last 20mins.
will let you know how it goes...
I tried your solutions, but it did not work for me... I am left with a functioning iPhone, sadly without wifi. Next to the network logo, i only have a small blue circle, instead of the wifi signal
