Do you rely on unlock? I'm happy to answer, but this exact question (3.x to 4.1 on a 3G) gets asked every second day here. Maybe you might want to search before you post.

If you rely on unlock, there is no supported path (yet) - wait for pwnagetool or take your risk with sn0wbreeze or an unofficial pwnagetool bundles from msdt.guy. There is zero support for sn0wbreeze on this forum.

If you are 100% sure you don't need an unlock now (or in the future) then you can use redsn0w beta 0.9.6 redsn0w 0.9.6 BETA [iPhone Dev Team]

no, don't need an unlock. thanks. ill look a little harder in the future. i saw something on 3.1 to 4.1, but i was wondering if it might be different for 3.0

It's generally a very good idea to wait - there is zero need to rush into a beta jailbreak.
