ipsw 2.2.1 same as PwnageTool 2.2
i am running 2.1 firmware, unlocked and jailbroken.
i just noticed iTunes released 2.2.1, once i upgrade my phone from 2.1 to 2.2.1 can i unlock using PwnageTool 2.2 or do i need to wait for PwnageTool 2.2.1?
here is the pwnagetool 2.2

What would happen on a "2G iPhone" running on "2.x firmware" with baseband version "04.04.05_G"
1) If you Update to 2.2.1
The phone will remain unlocked & usable but you will lose all third party application installed with Cydia or Installer.
2) If you Restore to 2.2.1
You will end up stuck at the slide to emergency (waiting Activation) screen with only the option of downgrading to make the phone work again until a new Quickpwn/pwnagetool is released.

another question for you...
i am running 2.1, somehow something had caused the sound of my dial pad, the calendar reminder and lock screen totally silent. the clock alarm works fine, just those three items above have absolutely no sound. this is annoying when i am dialing because it does not emit the touch tone.
my question is, is it possible for me to run in recovery mode, to restore to 2.1 again? since my phone has been pwnaged, so i do not need to go thru the DFU stuff, just restore via the recovery mode.
i am not even sure restore back to 2.1 would fix my missing sound problem.
your thoguhts??

Hi
I haven't supplied any kind of custom IPSW or pwnagetool 2.2.1 firmware.
If you use the update option in itunes on your 2G (like I said above) you will lose all third party apps.
If you "restore" in itunes you will have no way to bypass the Activation Screen unless you downgrade to 2.2 firmware or wait for the new versions of Quickpwn etc.
Best thing you can do if you want to keep your third party apps working is wait for the Dev Team to release a new jailbreak for 2.2.1 firmware. (See Below)

We may be getting are wires crossed a little bit here
If you want to have 2.2 firmware (not the 2.2.1 firmware that was released today) you can.
This shows you how to do that with pwnagetool:
iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your 2.x.x 2G iPhone (Mac) [Updated 2.2]
If you need the std 2.2 firmware you will find that below:
http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/f127/22056.htm
If you have a windows PC and don't have a custom 2.2 ipsw you may be better of using Quickpwn instead of pwnagetool.

i have 2.1 running on my iphone. when i plug iPhone with iTunes, it says i can upgrade to 2.2.1.
judging from your post, itunes 2.2.1 is very new and the dev team needs to develop pwnagetool_2.2.1 for it.
so...
1. i can not upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2.1
2. i can not upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2 either becasue when i connect iphone to itunes, i can only upgrade to 2.2.1 and not 2.2
and if i didn't upgrade using itunes to 2.2, i doubted i can use pwnagetool_2.2
am i correct so far??

Yes you're right But you can still update to 2.2 firmware
First downloading the 2.2 firmware from the link I provide above to you computer desktop
Then holding the alt key down on your mac when you press the update/restore button in itunes brings up the option to select the 2.2 firmware from your desktop.

i think i am still missing something here, sorry
so i do not need to upgrade to 2.2 via iTunes first and then restore using iPhone1,1_2.2_5G77_Restore.ispw?
i do not why i had thought this is a two steps process
1. upgrade via itunes
2. then run the pwnagetool to unlock/jailbreak
so if i do what you suggested, i will go from 2.1 to 2.2 firmware and my phone will be unlocked and jailbreak afterward? if i had created the iPhone1,1_2.2_5G77_Custom_Restore.ispw already. i can select this instead of the one you provided iPhone1,1_2.2_5G77_Restore.ispw.
after i do this upgrade, i will have to re-install all the apps i got from cydia, correct??
most importantly, do you suppose upgrading from 2.1 to 2.2 will resolve my missing sounds (dial pad, calendar alarm, and lock screen) issue??
