No it doesn't, at least not on the first gen iPhone which is where you've posted this. Only reason not to update a pwned 1st gen is if you want to keep access to cydia apps.

I updated NOT restore to 2.1 software thru iTunes and everything works GREAT...............

Youtube, Edge, Wifi, SMS, Google Maps, Apple app.store apps. All remained after update.

But the BEST thing is the phone is running really FAST.
NO LAG what so ever now.....

    This iPhone is frick'in COOL........................:iphone:

Sorry I forgot the most important thing.
The iPhone was a G2 iPhone Winpwned with custom 2.0 firmware before I updated.

    For iPhone 2G

If you are updating from 1.1.4 or before, yes, it will update the baseband.
If you are updating from 2.0, the baseband won't be updated.

I can confirm that the update didn't break anything, everything
is working OK. If you are in 2.0, you can use the iTunes update
button. Cydia and all unofficial apps are removed.

I understand the baseband is not updated (from 2.0 to 2.0.1) in the 2G iPhone, but it is updated in the 3G iPhone.

Either way I updated since I don't use Cydia, works incredibly better and it's really worth the hassle if you don't care for apps that relay on jailbreak.

I wonder if I'll have to Re-pwn the iPhone to use custom firmwares or not since I only updated the iPhone (as in not restored it).

Logically no. I'm no hacker but it suggests the 'low level' exploits remain intact??? Does it matter if you do though??? It's just a backup, pwn, restore.. takes about half an hour.. am i missing an issue here?

For those of you hoping that firmware 2.0.1 will provide some relief to the sluggishness of firmware 2.0, you will be disappointed. 24 hours after applying the 2.0.1 update, i have to say that performance-wise, 2.0.1 is just as bad as 2.0. Immediately after updating to 2.0.1, it was taking less than 2 seconds for Contacts to be responsive. About 12 hours later, it was taking about 4 seconds. 24 hours later, it is taking more than 10 seconds. I am sure by this time tomorrow, it will be taking more than 18 seconds, just like how long it was taking me to access Contacts in iPhone 2.0.

I hope this settles the claim put up by some that Cydia is to blame for the sluggishness in 2.0. Cydia or no Cydia (i have no Cydia in my 2.0.1 iPhone since it is not yet jailbroken), iPhone 2.0.X sucks ass in terms of performance.

One thing i "discovered" about Contacts. If you access Contacts via the Phone menu instead of loading it directly from the Home menu, you will notice that there is absolutely no lag at all. It's one extra step but hey, at least i don't have to wait for my nails to grow while Contacts is loading.

I updated my jailbroken and unlocked phone to 2.01 thus losing the jailbreak but remaining unlocked and I concur with the poster above in that I do not see any light and day improvements to the lag issues. Maybe it is slightly faster but not significantly so at least from my point of view. I haven't had any crashes yet though it is too early to say whether they are a thing of the past.

I wonder if the results will be better as and when I can do a clean restore. Even though I can no longer access cydia and my unofficial apps I wonder if they are still on the disc as I still have 550mb of "other" listed on my iphone in iTunes. Can anyone confirm/deny whether these are deleted in the update process?

    Backup still takes forever.
