Default iphone 3GS stuck in DFU, blank screen and no way to turn it on again

    Hey guys,

I've just tried to jailbreak my 3GS iPhone, that was running 3.1.2 with new iBoot (359.3.2) through redsnow 0.9.2 (Win XP).

It all went well until it was done, and the iPhone was supposed to reboot. But it didn't. Now the screen is blank and I can't do anything (tried hard reboot, redo the redsnow jailbreak, even tried blackrain) to make it work. Seems redsnow doesn't see the device anymore (and blackrain is the same).

When I connect it with iTunes open though, it is detected as being in DFU mode, and iTunes wants me to recover it with 3.1.3. I refuse to do that as long as I'm not sure there is absolutely no other option to make it work.

UsbView also detects the iPhone, and says it's in DFU mode.

My best guess is I probably didn't choose the right option when I was asked by redsnow (see screenshot) if it was a recent iPhone or not. Redsnow says not identifying it right might force me to do a full official restore, but it doesn't describe what exactly happens. Is that it?

What differentiate my situation to the many others "stuck in DFU mode" is that whatever I do, I can't get the screen to display anything, and that most programs don't recognize the iPhone.

    Am I stuck? Any idea?

Oh and of course, I don't have a shsh to restore it to 3.1.2 (would be too easy )

    Thanks for your help

    Hi,

First of all I do not want to be rude taking over your thread but since it is in the same line of problems, I figured I would add my case here. I hope this is okay.

I have a similar situation, I am stuck with an iphone I got from the classifieds in the DFU mode... I can not restart it with the holding of the home/power button for over 10 sec or anything... when I connect it to itunes it sees it but as an iphone ready to be restored.

The thing is, this iphone was JB and unlocked on 3.1.2 and all worked fine but there was allot of junk on it, personal files, emails... so I wanted the fresh restore to 3.1.2... it took place the day apple started this thing with the 3.1.3... I tried using the pwngtool 3.1.5 and the iphone screen loaded the custom 3.1.2 fw and after the reboot I got stuck in DFU... I did not want and still did not do the 3.1.3 restore.

Perhaps it is important to mention I needed to boot the phone with the blackra1n each time I shut it down before I did the attempt restore... any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I forgot to mention, I DO NOT HAVE THE FILES SAVED ON CYDIA. SHOOT

Uh guys... Are you sure you have the exact same problem? I mean the blank screen with no way to display anything?

Because I've been around the forums and haven't found anything that looks like my problem.

If you choose the wrong answer in redsn0w for a 3GS it very clearly states that you have to do a full restore with original Apple IPSW.

Without SHSH for 3.1.2 your only option is to restore to 3.1.3

I have the same problem. I used PwnageTool 3.1.5 on Macbook Pro and after the completion my iPhone stays in DFU. Theres no way out of it, have tried probably all possible combinations (Mac, Windows, different USB ports, iTunes versions, different jailbreaking apps etc). So I'm convinced that there is nothing much I can do right now. Question is, should I restore my phone to Apple 3.1.3 firmware or leave it as is until 3.1.3 will be properly jailbreaked?

Do you have a 3GS with the new bootrom? PwnageTool custom IPSW are not compatible with the new bootrom.

Yeah - you can add me to the stack of stupidity. :\

Got a brand new 3.1.2/5.11.07 3GS over the weekend, and realized that push was busted. Found that in order to get things rolling on the 3GS, you actually need to do the intial jailbreak with an ATT sim in the phone, and found that iTunes wouldn't restore 3.1.2 (yup, read Saurik's stuff), but the iPhone Dev Team blog states that Pwnage Tool is safe for 3.1.2/5.11.07 - so I went that route to get 3.1.2 back to stock. Except I guess it still wants to boot neuter a 3GS? Bleh.

Long story short - error 1600, stuck in DFU mode. Not amount of holding power, or power+home gets me out of if. My only option is a restore to 3.1.3, so I have a rather expensive paperweight until a 3.1.3 fix is put out - which I'm pretty sure will be *never*. So I have to wait until 4.x, and that gets jailbroken and unlocked.

ie, this thing is useless until Christmas more than likely.

Oh well - at least I still have my 2G sitting here.
