I have previously posted how to remove blacksn0w and blackra1n's hacktivation - you would then need to replace these with redsn0w's hacktivation and ultrasn0w. This approach requires a good grasp of the command line and you should have OpenSSH (and preferably also MobileTerminal) installed and tested before you start.
Too bad I removed blacksn0w and istalled ultrasn0w before knowing you answered me
Wi-fi is back every time I restart the iPhone but I still have to try another sim card to check if the unlock is still working, because the only one I have now is a pay-as-you-go and
I know that does not work till I go in the specific country.
Should I follow what is indicated in your post remove blacksn0w and blackra1n's hacktivation and reinstall ultrasn0w?
    Thanks

how did you remove blacksn0w? It's a lot more than just deleting the blackra1n icon on your iPhone.

Blacksn0w is the problem - so as long as you have removed it properly (and replaced it with ultrasn0w) - it isn't such a big issue if you still have the blackra1n hacktivation dylib loaded.

However: Sync/Backup your phone as it is now. Then make a copy of the backup. (do this NO MATTER WHAT)

If you want to get to a clean state:
Make a custom IPSW 4.3.3 with pwnagetool. Restore that in pwned dfu mode.
Restore your backup. Install ultrasn0w (if necessary) and you are fine.

Otherwise if you really want to try screwing around with the command line.

I did the Uninstall from Cydia manage packages and then installed ultrasn0w from Cydia
Do you think is not enough?

It looks like everything is working but I did not check if it is still there.
the iPHONE does not refuse the other sim card, but I cannot verify yet if the unlock still works.

I did the backups but I read I can't upgrade my iPhone 3gs to 4.3.3 and have it unlocked or can I?

    Most likely.

That doesn't really mean much. As you said, you need to test.

If you keep your baseband at the level it is now (via custom firmware) then you should be able to unlock at 4.3.3
Do you have a saved SHSH for your current iOS version?

Yes I do have a saved SHSH , I saved it with TinyUmbrella and there is on Cydia servers too
but I do not know how and when to use it
Is there a way with Pwnagetool?

P.s.I just checked and I have ultrasn0w-xgold608.dylib but no trace of the blackrain dlyb

When you say you have a saved SHSH, you do understand you need a unique SHSH blob for each iOS version.

You can use TinyUmbrella's TSS Server to trick iTunes into accepting locally saved SHSH blobs.

    Yes, I do.Thanks
I just saved the one I have now for 3.1.2 but TinyUmbrella shows me all saved SHSHs from 3.1.2 till 4.3.3 and I saw the button to start the TSS server
I know I have the blob SHSH 3.1.2 on my computer, beside the ones on the server

Do you know which tutorial I could follow to update my iPhone 3gs and update it without risking to loose the unlock?
I'm very confused at this point which OS is good and which is not
iClarified suggests 4.21 but you wrote about possible battery problems
What shall I do? I 'm afraid to start doing anything that could brick my iPhone
because I just know parts of the process but not all of them.
    Help!

I'm very happy with 4.2.1 (what I am still running on my iPhone 4) - battery life is O (but I used legitimate activation and did not restore from iTunes saved backup)

Both hacktivation (due to invalid push certificates) and restore from iTunes backup can create battery life problems for a small percentage of people.

Today I was able to check if a different provider sim card would work: only my provider works, sic
The other sim card can't find the network, no signal : (

    I did what Olethros suggested
    logged in as a root
and run the commands http://www.hackint0sh.org/f220/130992.htm etc..
I did everything but restore. Not yet
While I was logged in , I checked if I had all the installed files required by Ultrasn0w

    One is missing
    Usr- share- ultrasn0w- ultrasn0w-xgold608.dlyb

I tried to remove and reinstall Ultrasn0w and checked the installed files
everything goes in place but no way to see ultrasn0w folder and ultrasn0w-xgold608.dlyb

    What shall I do?

BTW My iPhone has legitimate activation, IOS 3.1.2 , jailbroken 1 year ago, unlocked with blacks0w,
had problem with restarting and wifi.
Uninstalled blacksn0w, installed ultrasn0w after doing the cleaning suggested above
Now everything works but the unlocking. Yes I can restart and wifi works.
I studied how TinyUmbrella works, read a lot but I need some clear infos
just to avoid to have my iphone stuck for ever.. like tons of stories I read.

    I NEED the unlock, help : )
Thanks a lot Olethros for your help so far but I'm still far away , I'll be happy to have just 3.1.2 unlocked

in case someone is reading my posts..

because of the unlocking problems I followed Olethros suggestion
launched TinyUmbrella with my SHSH blob , run their server
upgraded my iphone 3gs from 3.1.2 to 4.2.1
then with pwnagetool I updated to 4.2.1,

Everything went fine but after the pawnage my service was lost
I checked my firmware that should have been the same 5.11.07 3Gs I had before
but alas it changed to 5.14.02.
Wasn't TinyUmbrella supposed to save my unlockable baseband?!?

My iPhone 3gs looked for service for ever, waiting for an activation that never came
after 15 min I restored back to what was working (legitimated 4.2.1) before and I got everything working
(TinyUmbrella was in the back still running)

Tried a second time to jailbreak it again but this time no way
It was stuck on restore in progress and the iPhone was pitch black
    nothing going on there
From TinyUmbrella I click Fix Recovery
and this time I went back and was able to restore to the normal firmware 4.21 by Apple and not my custom one.

    What shall I do? Please
I read everywhere but could not find an answer
