iPhone 3G Jailbreak Question
Hi all,
It has been a long time since I last hacked my iPhone. I currently have a UK iPhone 3G running 3.1.3 (7E18) / Modem Firmware: 05.12.01.
Simple question, can I jailbreak this iPhone using the latest PwnageTool (3.1.5) and this guide from iClarified.
Also, are there any limitation I should be aware of?
I am sure this question has been asked a thousand times before, but I was not able to find a post that completely answered my question.
Thanks in advance.

If that is your phone then there is absolutely no way to unlock that baseband 05.12.01 at the moment.
If you ONLY want to jailbreak the phone and don't care about the unlock, you can use redsn0w 0.9.2. When you run redsn0w, select firmware 3.1.2 (yes ... 3.1.2) and proceed with the jailbreak.
Pwnagetool only works if you currently have 3.1.2 on the phone.

Hi, thanks for the quick response.
I have no need to unlock. I am going to stay with O2, (however my iPhone has already been officially unlocked by O2).
Just out of interest why does the iClarified guide say you can Jailbreak an iPhone 3G running 3.1.3 with PwnageTool 3.1.5? or have I read it wrong?
I will go and investigate redsn0w 0.9.2, anything I should know?

Both redsn0w 0.9.2 and pwnagetool 3.1.5 will jailbreak a 3G running 3.1.3
as dtube said, unlock is not possible for that baseband.

Cool, so both will do the job I need. Any advise as to which method is best/safest etc?
Also, just to confirm my iPhone is already running 3.1.3. Once I have completed the Jailbreak if necessary can I roll back to normal by just restoring through iTunes using the official firmware?
Thanks again.

Pwnagetool is the safest. Redsn0w is faster/simpler.
Yes you can just restore official 3.1.3 to remove the jailbreak (don't restore any official IPSW higher than 3.1.3 if you want to hold out for a chance of an unlock in the future)

Great, I think i'm all set. I have been out of the game for a long time. Last time I was involved I used SSH and the command line. In a way that was actually easier as there are now loads of different solutions. (Can be quite confusing).

no signal after jailbreak
Hi all,
I'm in a similar situation. My iPhone 3G was unlocked officially by O2 (in the UK). So I have no need to unlock the phone anymore. I only want to jailbreak.
When I do it (and I've always had my iPhones jailbreaked) now, I get no signal anymore. It simply goes (phone) dead! I used Pwnage 3.13, and also 3.15.
For information, am using OS 3.1.2...
Thanks for your help!

Did you say yes to the can you activate your iPhone through itunes question?
Those who are officially unlocked must answer this question as yes.
